LXGB comparison shots

Featured Replies

Some sample shots around LXGB and more specifically the Rock itself, for anyone interested

First few shots are from Google Earth, currently showing imagery from 2009 and 2011, so a bit out of date

These next few are the default MS/Asobo LXGB (don't know if this is only with the premium edition). Not perfect, texture-wise, but not too bad, and reasonable accurate in turms of overall profile and shape, I thought.

If you add in the Samscene package, it doesn't seem to make any changes to the rock iteslf, but there are a whole new set of high-rise blocks on the seaward side at the airport end. No idea if these are accurate as I couldn't see them on Google Earth/Maps.

This last lot are with the default Asobo uninstalled and Samscene not activated, but using the recent RDPresets package.

Personally, I now think of the rock as "God's Haemorrhoids". Bit of a shame, as the actual airport and other stuff in the RDPresets package is very nice indeed. There's a bit of explanation on their forum about this and claims they couldn't do any better with the current SDK tools, and I have no basis to dispute that (although the default looks better to my eyes). Not sure which setup I'll leave in place - depends on whether I want to wander around at ground level of concentrate on flying in/out of the place I guess.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Thanks for the comparisons.   Humbly I'd suggest that RDPresets offer a version without the rock to let the user decide which they like best.

BTW, may have missed it above.. can you combine the RDPresets with Samscene or do they clash?

I bought the RDP version the other day, not sure if I noticed this.

Interesting comparisons. As far as the Rock itself goes, I think I would stick with reality/ 🙂

Didn't try it personally, but RDP say they clash, and I would expect that as the grouind levels for the RDP vs default are different (sunken runways etc)

Fine comparsion Andy, i think i would stay with the Asobo one, looks more "real" for me.

cheers 😉

IMO, the visual appearance of the rock face itself leaves a lot to be desired in both versions. It is pretty obvious that neither of them match the real world landmark (at least on the airport and open sea sides).

Almost 2 years later, we now have MSFS 2024 and reconsidering RDPresets LXGB (currently on sale) ... presumably there has been a few updates - opinions please, how is it looking today, worth picking up?
