March 22, 20233 yr Firing up the a310 which is pretty much the airliner I'm flying atm while stuck on xbox I notice a huge difference in the sounds, the SU12 update notes today states: Significant sound improvements in all areas of the aircraft (numerous reports are covered in this) Not quite sure what to make of this but compared to before the engine sounds are now whisper quiet even outside and engine volume is at 100%I Inside the cockpit there is now this constant looping whine once you turn on the batteries, it's painful as you can't stop hearing this annoying split second pause and it's at a frequency that is always above all other sounds like the apu bleed, packs, hell even the now quiet engines. The noisiest part of the plane has now become the battery whine in the cockpit, no longer the engines, they seem to have lost all their grunt! During flight inside the cockpit the engines even at full power sound like I have an air compressor running in the background, they certainly no longer sound like jet engines. Another weird one is when the APU kicks in the increased noise that typically happens when I turn on the APU bleed next (packs come on) is already at that volume, turning on the bleed you can hear some almost muted background sounds kicking in but that "packs are running" sound is there from the start, apu bleed being on or not. Likewise when now turning on the engine starter the packs don't 'audibly' power down either, basically barely any ambient volume difference between the engine starters being on or not. How this compares to the real plane I have no idea but it just sounds VERY different to that it was before and as I recall from flying other airliners when on PC was that the engine starting procedure very audibly powered down the packs. Something strikes me as not being right here and sound is such an important feature which based on how it's sounding now this plane is going back into the hangar, this is not immersive at all anymore to me.
April 1, 20233 yr The A310's sounds before and after this update are quite dire. It's frustrating as it's such a good solid airliner, but I don't use it as sound is as important to the fidelity as visuals for me. The FTSim+ sound mod wasn't any improvement to my ears either. It's odd as I owned the A310 by inibuilds for X-Plane and the sounds in that were stellar. I don't think INI have quite got a handle on Wwise yet. I check vendor sites weekly for a good addon sound pack for the A310! April 1, 20233 yr Not sure how to explain this. But when I got access to this sound upgrade, it was in the beta. It was light years better than initial. So for me the sounds have improved radically. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
April 1, 20233 yr I actually think the sounds have improved quite a bit. They added the engine growl on takeoff which was missing before and the engine sounds now slowly fade out as airspeed increases while you climb. This is very realistic as you will not hear the engine sounds in the cockpit at cruise (PMDG does this well also). The one thing I did notice was that the warning sounds are now way too low (altitude capture, etc). Overall, I think it is a big improvement over the prior soundset although certainly could be tuned a bit more. I cannot comment on the exterior engine sounds as I really never use exterior views. I wish more aircraft developers would add better ground roll sounds, especially on takeoff/landing...
