Hi all, I fly MSFS exclusively in Vr.

My current setup is I9-9900k

Z390M Pro4 Motherboard (ASRock)

64GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super.

Windows 11 Pro.

I am thinking of upgrading my GPU, but the fact is I have limited budget. I was thinking of going to RTX3060 with12 Gb ram.

Is this a reasonable change?

Thanks in advance.

Robin

While I can find no direct comparisons of the 2080 super and the 3060 in MSFS VR, you should get a good idea of how well it will go by looking at MSFS 2D performance between these two cards at 4K, which is roughly representative of running high res VR. Here's one I found, albeit a 3060 Ti which is slightly faster than the 3060 but has less memory, and it shows negligible performance difference between the two. In other words, it is likely not worth the upgrade to a 3060 for MSFS VR.

I know you are budget limited, but the minimum upgrade I would do in your case would be a 3080 or 3080 Ti, both of which can be bought second hand for not much more than a new 3060.

What would be more beneficial - to buy for example 3070 with 8G Ram or slower 3060 with 12G of Ram?

GPU is to be used exclusively for flight sim - mostly P3D5

Here's a comparison of the two cards: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-vs-Nvidia-RTX-2080S-Super/4105vs4050  Adding the 4GB of memory and extra performance of the 3060 certainly won't hurt your VR performance.

Wait for the RTX 4060. Rumour has it, it is coming some and it will be about $500. You won't get Frame Frame generation with a 3000 series graphics card and if you buy one and find that, if you waited a bit longer you could have gotten a 4000 series card for about the same price you'll kick yourself.

Considering the anemic bandwidth of the 4070 and below cards, I bet frame generation and DLSS 3 will be a performance killer.

Frame generation doesn't work in VR anyway.
