Can I get back to the hobby with this build?

Hello, after many years of been inactive, I've decided to give it a go once more. I left it in the days when FSX SE was released... that's how long it's been. I'm planning on using FS2020 exclusively. Three Childrens later is needless to say that I'm in a tight budget LOL. I'm not only getting a new PC but a new Monitor and Hardware as well. My plan is to start with something like this and do some upgrades down the road; I'm just not sure if this pc is even a good starting point.  Any help is greatly  appreciated. Thank you.

I'd look into a 5800X3D cpu over a 5700G.  I think you can thank me later.  😁

If it's for MSFS exclusively I'd go 4070ti or 4080 or 4090.   The 3080 is too expensive for what it brings, the 4070ti isn't much more, and if on a budget will get you in the door for MSFS Frame Generation at least.  If you have to skimp on other aspects of the build I'd put money towards a 4070ti over a 3080 if building for MSFS on a budget.

I think with 5800X3D + 4070ti you will be in much better shape in 5 years time than you would be with a 5700G + 3080.   And for maybe $250-$300 more total.

New stock 5800X3D might become harder to find soon, as all of the AMD 7-series 3D cpu's launch.

Hang on were discussing 4070Ti and 4080, the original spec says 3060! That's a BIG increase in cost of the build. A 3060 will run MFS okay so long as you're not in VR or 4K, obviously something faster and with more video memory will be better but you will pay quite a bit of the privilege

Oh yeah.  I thought his original spec said 3080, not 3060.    3080's are expensive for what they are today!

using a 3060 would make a 5800X3D ($320) overkill and I probably wouldn't do that pairing if on a budget.  5700G ($180) + 3060 would be a reasonable budget system.

It's just that Frame Generation (4070ti) is a big deal, 5800X3D + 4070ti would really have a lot more staying power.

I am thinking 4060 or 4070 for myself and it's possible they'll be announced next month. Rekon they'll be a good pairing with my existing i5-12400F? I run 1440p.

I'd wait until 3rd party reviews of either of those GPUs. There is a big question as to how a 4060 will perform considering the cut down cores and anemic bandwidth. On YT, there are several videos questioning exactly how a 4070 will perform in 1440p, again due to bandwidth issues. For instance, see

 500gb hard disk space might be limiting if you want to add a lot of addons.
