Restoring Nvidia's driver sharpening.

Featured Replies

I came across this on Panjno's YT channel, and tried it out. Now, it could be the usual 'placebo' effect, but I'm sure it's done something to improve matters. The instruments in the JF Arrow III seem a bit sharper than they did yesterday. Worth looking at by all Nvidia GPU users.

Thanks for posting the YT link. It works - and it's definitely *NOT* placebo. If you try some extreme settings (eg. anything over sharpening:50) then you'll see a very obvious difference. You'll need to restart MSFS (or even reboot the PC) after applying the new values though.

I'm not a huge fan of over-sharpening, so my settings are 30:17.

Thanks for your confirmation that I'm not hallucinating 😉

I agree with you - sharpening needs to be applied sparingly. I left the settings at default ( 0.50 , 0.17 ) but might try out your values.

On reflection, I think my setting of 30 is still too high. I'm going to keep reducing it.

Interesting.  Why use this instead of the in game sharpening?  Do you think it gives better performance?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Now that I couldn't yet say, unless I do a load of tweaking and rebooting. I mentioned the JF Arrow III because it's the aircraft I'm most familiar with in MSFS, and so any change would be obvious. The clarity of the analogue instruments does seem to have gone back to what it was like last year, judging from the screenshots of my ongoing RTW trip in it. I think I see less of the 'grainy' effect using this driver sharpening rather than the in-game sharpening. The outside scenery also appears  improved. That's about as precise as I can be, I'm afraid. I'm using DX12 and TAA, by the way.

OK.  Thanks Paul.  I will give it a try anyway.  Easy to put back if I don't like it.
