Hi,

Anyone to give me some suggestions about screenshots?

Normally I use OLED LG 4C2 for MSFS and when I take a screenshot the colour results are different from what I really see in my television. Maybe I need to adjust some settings but I don't know which ones in order to have a screen which is exactly what I am seeing.

Thanks.

It's due to HDR and depends what you are using to capture the screenshot

I've found the easiest solution to capture screenshots in HDR is to use the Windows Game Bar (Windows+G) it will save a .png that's tone mapped to be viewable in SDR and a .jxr that's in HDR.

I switched off the HDR, both on the display and in MSFS general options. Even on this situation, what I get is not equal...

It seems that when I make a screen of the welcome panel, all the colours are exactly equal. Inside the game the change to the screenshot. HDR is off.

I use the "print screen" button of the keyboard in combination with dropbox which then saves a screenshot.

The problem is the colour. For example I am now with a black livery of Air New Zealand. On the TV the black is really hot black. On the screen it is a cold black, like if it is miked with another colour. The sky is darker on the TV. And so on...

As an advanced photographer, I use a screen color calibration tool to set my monitor to represent colors properly to begin with,  I happen to use the Spyder X Pro from Datacolor, but there are other systems too.  It not only adjust the monitors internal settings for the proper color temperature, but calibrates it so that shifts in color created by ambient light falling on the surface are compensated for.

This not only means I get an exact representation of photographs and video I'm editing, but makes the color proper for every program/device I'm using.  Finally when you capture a screen, even when it's set properly, the representative captured image may not be exact, especially with extreme contrasts.  Therefore, I always edit images before I post them to make sure that the contrast and brightness values are close to how they appeared in the sim.

I see many beautiful screens on foruns and many of them are something like 'take and post'. Do those people treat every screen before they post? Hum...

But anyway the problem is only inside MSFS. If I take a screen from the welcome menu, everything is perfect. Any explanation? HDR off, TV is set to game optimizer with settings that are recomended in a lot of videos. I also tried to start MSFS without any "resharde" addons. No luck. I don't know why is this happening 😐

I'm sure a lot of posters don't edit their shots - they just shove them up there.  When I edit (if needed) it's to make sure that the brightness/contrast values are correct and emulate what I saw while flying.  Color has never been an issue as I've already set up the monitor so that I see colors properly - extremely important for photography and video.

I can guarantee that the colors represented on your monitor are not correct out of the box nor does optimizing the video for the sim bring more accuracy to that color.  Setting the color balance, depth and contrast has everything to do with matching the monitor's output to the ambient light of your environment.  This always changes when you have daylight falling on your screen or artificial light.  This even changes with the seasons, as the daylight coming in your windows changes temperature when the sun is at different angles.

It may be that the color settings for the Welcome/Menu screens is different than the MSFS flying environment.

So, what to do in this case?

Either get something like Spyder to properly set the color of your monitor (not cheap and not that important to many users unless they are photogs/videographers), or set up an edit to match what you see on your monitor  The screen you're using is certainly excellent, but it's also a TV, though with good gaming capabilities, so I'm not certain how compatible it is with color control software and devices designed for computers.

If you are happy with the colors you're getting and you have photographic-editing software, adjust the color/contrast to match as close as you can and save it as a filter.  If the color difference is a constant, then simply apply the filter to each captured image (adjusts quickly) and post it.

You have to change settings for exemple colour with nVidia freestyle and not with your TV so you can share your photos exactly as you see them. You can of course change the settings of your TV for yourself but you will not be able to share what you have modified by a simple screenshot.

Here is an example with two photos, the first I made exaggerated settings with my tv but the result of the screenshot in the end has not changed

The second photo I made the adjustments with Nvidia freestyle also exaggerates and the screenshot retransmits exactly what I see

No matter what setting I make with the options of my tv, nothing changes in the end with the screenshot.

Using Nvidia freestyle the change I make is retransmitted exactly as I see it

Where can I find nVidia freestyle?

Ok, I was playing with it a little bit. Strange or not, the black is never shinning. It is always a cold black and never a brillant black. Don't know which setting to touch...
