Is the cup half full or half empty???

The Cup was always full in the first place, because even when it was entirely empty of water it was always filled with Air, therefore that question was always flawed, real answer it was always full in the first place with a combination of water and air or no water and all air and all water and no air, the cup has never been empty

Therefore always be positive because it was never empty to begin with 😎

In the forums we get examples of very large cups, filled with very hot air, with very little density. Are these included in the consideration.

But the reason/purpose for the cup’s existence in the first place is to hold liquid. So does it matter (pun intended) if anything else besides liquid is considered?

Right. To say the cup is half empty is focussing entirely on the cup but you should be focussing more on the liquid, so the cup is half full (of liquid). I don't think you would say the cup is half empty (of liquid).

A balloon is a different matter because, even with the smallest amount of liquid, it is already full.

If it were 60% full you wouldn't say it was 40% empty. Why should 50% be any different? If you say "half empty", the immediate question would be "well, what is it half full of?".

It's not 60% full though is it, its half full/empty that's the expression. Half full and hall empty are common expressions. Logic is definitive on this one. Its both.

Whatever you were referring to when you made that statement. My glass is half full with tea, Coke, lemonade, my favorite Kombucha etc.  Or half empty. Both statements are valid. Gases are a different question though, because it would have to be a heavier than air gas.

I've been reading these comments the past few days with a smile. Not sure where I heard this it came up on a YouTube recently so I used it is a motivation in my workplace, but the message to be positive is the point of it.

And to settle the debate yes Air is a Fluid too, the semantics are what makes this fun

My Logic is this: 

you have an empty 500ml glass, and you add liquid to it. This scenario means you have added from its former state. Therefore half full. 
yes it’s also half empty but we received the glass empty and have added to it so it can only be an increase .

But if we received the glass with 500ml of liquid in it and take 250ml FROM it, it’s now half empty as the original state we received the glass, was FULL of liquid.

  …and I’m sticking with that ….😄
