I had to do some research to determine the problems and get an estimate for repair.

Awesome! Yet another brilliant idea from MartinW. I pulled that little issue out of the fire. 😃 Heap on me great praise.

Joking aside, I'll certainly donate. My daughter said she would too. 👍

Get that guy mobile!

Done! 150 of your inferior American dollars.

My daughter will too when she gets home.

Thanks Matthew! Your generosity is much appreciated. One of the first things I did was to join the local amateur radio club as it is one of the quickest ways to meet a large group of people from diverse backgrounds.

All good my friend, when moving to a new place those relations are built over time, I feel really positive you are in a good place to make it work, and I'll give a little prayer too 😎

Consider much praise heaped, my dear overseas friend! Honestly, I was very reluctant to create a GoFundMe account and ask for help both here and at FSDeveloper.com since it isn't truly related to "aviation" at all.

I'd like to add my thanks to my fellow BoD members and moderators for allowing me to post my "askit" here. It is truly a humbling experience. So thank you again Martin for getting me past my reluctance to create the account.

You are a decent guy who was doing a good deed for a fellow veteran and had a stroke of bad luck yourself. And I'm sure you've done plenty of other good deeds for others in your time.

Its your turn now and you deserve it.

Interesting is one way to look at the extensive damage to the rearend...

That's certainly not what I call the misfortune that you have encountered.

Anyway, as promised, I've made a donation towards whatever course of action gets you mobile again.

All the best.

Did the wheel rim survive the blowout of the tire and driving after it went flat without damage?

Seriously, that is unknown at this time for certain. It appears to be intact although some scratches are visible. I don't believe that the inner surface where the tire's bead seals is affected, however. I'm sure the mechanic will let me know whenever I have the funds in hand to let him begin.

From what we've seen for sure the strut needs to be replaced, as well as the (bent) upper control arm. The flexible brake line is destroyed, and the ABS sensor wires will need to be replaced. Anything else is unknown at this point.

Thanks for asking!

Might be, if its a steel wheel and bent, it can be hammered back.

Happened to me once. When our housing estate in the UK was under construction I hit a pothole. Wheel was hammered straight.

I'm not certain, but I suspect that they are cast aluminum.

If you do need a new rim, ask the repair shop to try to source one from an auto recycling yard rather that buying one new. (If new rims for a car that old are even available). For sure you will need new parts for the strut and and control arm, brake line and the ABS sensor. Here’s wishing you well that the repair goes smoothly!

Please get your mechanic to do a pre-repair inspection at their garage (even if it's chargeable) to give you a far more realistic price for the complete repair job and then get that quote in writing.

If I may share my anecdote with you. Last year, I had the timing belt go on my car, requiring a partial engine rebuild. I paid for the tow to the garage for a detailed look. I was given a quote and we agreed that if anything else needed repairing I would be informed first. To use aviation parlance, it was touch-and-go. Any pricier, I would have sold the car for scrap value. Fortunately, it came in at budget, which was due to me making it clear where I stood on cost and a trustworthy garage.

Looking at the total raised, it's great to see the Avsim community step up!

My landlady's live-in boyfriend is busy sourcing salvage yards to determine if a wheel from a 1998 through 2008 is available. James is a trained mechanic. Since GoFundMe has already transferred part of the funds already donated to my checking account, I'll go ahead and order replacement struts for both rear suspensions. Both should be replaced in order to ensure stability and safety. I can order the brake hose and ABS sensor at the same time. By me supplying the parts, it will lower the cost considerably.
