At least the one I've got has a mechanical on/off switch with some kind of a surge protector. With this, the circuit should be open when turned off, or am I understanding something wrong (and thus, I've been lucky)? If your PC is plugged into a power strip and you turn off the power strip, your PC shuts down, as there's no power to the PSU. So no, you cant put it into hibernate mode if the PC is shut down. Unless you mean that your PC PSU is not plugged into your power strip? Just the other stuff is, like speakers, monitor etc. Its a weird power strip if it has a switch that does nothing. 🤔 We be confused. 😉 Edited August 15, 20232 yr by martin-w
August 15, 20232 yr Ahhh, hahahaha, now I see: I either hibernate or shut down my rig first, and then, as soon as I confirm it's off, I turn the power strip off. My bad, I need a coffee 😂 Edited August 15, 20232 yr by Luis Hernandez Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. August 15, 20232 yr Administrators OK, so when the power strip is turned off there is no power to the computer and it's the CMOS battery that is keeping the memory alive! 🤔 Don't be surprised when your computer won't work anymore because you CMOS battery crapped out! I had it happen to me a long time ago! Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

I might be keeping a spare battery, just in case. August 15, 20232 yr Administrators It took a while. Maybe several months. There were times when I was out of town for a week or 2 and this was my home desktop computer. I had it happen to me a long time ago! The CMOS battery powers the CMOS chip on the motherboard. Keeps the firmware alive. Its rechargeable. They usually last about 3 - 5 years if you switch off at the mains socket. They can last longer if you don't. No big deal though, easy to replace on most boards. You usually know its gone when the Windows clock starts doing weird things.
August 15, 20232 yr Author So yesterday while in the air around Toronto in the Comanche, I decided to put my system to sleep and then turn it off at the PSU switch to see if, when I turned the system back on MSFS2020 was still running. I put the system to sleep. The only visible sign the system is asleep as apposed to off is the light in the power on button flashing. I then proceed to throw the PSU switch and remove the power cord from the PSU. After a few minutes I plugged the cord back in and throw the power switch to on. I had to leave then so I didn't get to turn the system back on. It stayed like that until today and I had completely forgotten what I had done yesterday. When I pressed the on button today the bios screen appears and I expected the desktop to follow but the Sign on screen appears instead just as it does when waking the system from sleep. Sure enough MSFS was still running along with all the other required apps and I continued the flight. Everything seemed to be working normally but I though perhaps smoother than usual. That's probably placebo.🤪 I'll keep MSFS running for a couple of weeks and see how it holds up. I find the time it takes get MSFS up and running very frustrating given that I never really have more than an hour to play at a time.
