Butt kicker

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have built my own sim rig, including using an old car seat mounted onto a wooden frame.

I am contemplating getting a butt kicker to go under the seat but looking at all the pics the transducer needs to mount onto something like the support of the office chair.

I do not have that, just a space under my seat between frame and seat. I have seen something that seems to overcome that like a steel tube with bolt fixings I could attach to the base under the seat.

Firstly, is this possible and secondly is it worth it in regards to the immersion factor?

Dave

Hey Dave,

I own a buttkicker and it is NOT attached to my chair.  I just can't have wires going from my chair to my pc.

In my setup I use a https://wheelstandpro.us/saitek-flight-controllers/ and attached the unit to the middle part of the unit on the bottom which basically shakes everything.  BTW - I think you should be able to mount it directly to the wood under your chair.

Let me know if you want more info or a pic.

Tx

Perfectly possible and yes, it does increase the immersion factor.

My cockpit has the seat fitted on the base unit of a car seat, to allow position adjustment. The actual seat has a plywood base and I fitted a transducer unit to this. It's driven by a 12v bass amplifier, using the bass output from the sound card, and is very effective. This was about one third the cost of a Buttkicker. The transducer I used was from ebay for about £30  although when I looked today it did not show up. However there is a Dayton unit for £35 which is slightly smaller than mine, but probably adequate, because I get realistic feedback on quite a low power setting.  My bass amp is also from ebay, for about £24, probably intended for a car. You just need a suitable 12v dc power supply.

Thank you HS118,

That's almost identical to mine except my seat runners are mounted direct onto my frame so I do have a gap under the seat for the Butt Kicker.

How did you attach it and in your opinion is it worth it for the immersion factor?

In my cockpit, I attached the transducer to a plywood spacer between the car seat and the floor seat mounting frame. I'm using a car seat as well.

Interesting. I don't have a Buttkicker, but I do have a sub woofer which I bought specifically for the sim. How loud is your setup?
