Xbox and MSFS

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Moderators, may I start by saying that if this is in the wrong forum then please move. I am here because I have what I believe is an Xbox problem which is related to MSFS2020.

OK, since the last update, I am finding that if I create, fly,  finish a flight and quit to desktop, then wish to start a new flight I have to sign out of Xbox, turn off or restart my computer, sign in to Xbox and then start MSFS. This is now a constant which I find extremely annoying particularly because I do not own an Xbox nor do I have any desire to own or use Xbox  but is now a process I have to undergo just to use MSFS.

Whether or not, it is a marketing ploy to try to convince me to buy into the whole Xbox thing is not making this experience any better for me, given that loading MSFS2020 is, in itself, a relatively lengthy process.

I am quite sure also, that this whole procedure is not really necessary as no one else is complaining about it, much less even mentioning it. I am therefore "pleading" for someone to tell me how to avoid it.  I am pretty much aware that Xbox is a necessary part of MSFS since MS combined the two, but surely I should not have to log out, restart the computer and then sign in again to get to MSFS.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

No, this isn't a marketing ploy to get you to buy an Xbox console (although merging all of their gaming products and services under the Xbox brand can be a little confusing), something isn't right with the account authentication on your system. Asobo/Microsoft have some troubleshooting steps you can look into in the link below. Also make sure you have the latest Xbox Gaming Services updates from the Microsoft Store on your PC.

Agree this is not "normal operation".. Hope the links above fix it for you! 🙂

So what happens if you just try and start another flight? Does it give you an error? Does it ask you to insert the disk? Does it show you the Xbox Login window?

Also, have you modified Windows using some third party tool, or is this a standard Windows install. Some of those tools often turn off various things that may be required for MSFS to log into Xbox.

And no, this is not a widespread issue, don't think I've seen this come up on the forums (official or here) the way you're describing it.

Goates, Thank you for those links which I shall look into very shortly. I will let you all know how I get on.

Bert, Thanks mate, I hope it will sort it out too.

JohnathonC et al, What happens is that if I quit to desktop after a flight, and immediately restart MSFS, it goes through the normal load up procedure until it gets to about 75% and then locks up in exactly the same way as incorrectly signing out of google map replacement. Since I have not used that feature for some months now, and have checked the relevant file, I know that, that is not the cause.  The only solution left to me is to sign out of Xbox, restart the computer, sign in to Xbox and then I can restart MSFS.

I am very sure it is the Xbox system that is at fault but I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it to no avail.  The only thing that I can think of is that after the last update, I lost my MSFS desktop icon and now have to start using Xbox. To get that desktop icon back, i believe the only way is to uninstall MSFS and reinstall using the install desktop icon at the beginning of the re install. That takes a full day despite having a 300mps starlink connection.

I have just noticed that there is an Xbox update today (it is about 5.00am here) and I will do that and see if it has any effect. If it does not, I will check out Goates links much further.

Thanks again for your responses guys and as usual, I want you to know that all responses are appreciated.

Cheers

Tony

There shouldn't be any need to reinstall just to get the desktop icon back. If MSFS is in your Start menu, you just need to open the menu and drag the icon to the desktop. If it isn't in your Start menu, open the Microsoft Store app, go the Library where all of your apps are listed, then click the three dots on the right side and hit "Pin to start", after which you can drag it the icon to the desktop as above.

Goates,

Yeaaa...that is what I was looking for. After all this time using MSFS to find this, I am a self confessed idjit LOL

By the way, doing that update seems to have fixed the problem anyway, so I should probably left the problem for a few days and thereby not revealing the workings of my tiny and aged brain.

Than you so very much for your input mate.

You're welcome! Glad to hear you've got it sorted now. Don't be too hard on yourself, you aren't the only one that's been stumped by Microsoft.
