September 18, 20232 yr Given the screenshots went to the General Screenshots (Way they do things here at AVSIM I guess). Decided to do this and just add posts with no more than 2 pics with the title on the reply "Me n XPlane dd/mm/yy" That will do I think nothing onerous.
September 18, 20232 yr You can also rename the thread to "X-Plane Flight Reports" to emphasize narrative over screenshots. This would of course require every participant to write up their flight first and optionally spice it up with some images second. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
September 18, 20232 yr Me n Xplane 15/09/2023 short flight report... mainly flying for my VA I jumped in on the last sale a few weeks ago and got the Felis 742. On one of this aircraft cemeteries/scrapeyards in South Africa (FAUP) I actually found one for sale in our system and bought it. Transferred to FAOR, refurbished and with a fresh paint for the Queen I did a short first hop to FACT and decided then to jump over to SBGL South America for a RTW tour. I def had better checked the weather reports. Departure in FACT was already awful with a lot of shaking and windshears. Over the big water it was quite uneventful. Just to descend into a world of clouds and heavy rain again on approach. Love the plane. Especially the LTN stuck in between CIVAS and FMCs/MCDUs is marvellous. Cheers T.
September 19, 20232 yr Author Me n XPlane 19092023 This is the Manky Dash 8 100 version 1.7.3. This is an enthusiastic rebuild of an early Riviere Dash. Fully XP12 compliant now. Lots of versions as it has been worked on by enthusiastic self taught developer Manky - started as a project to give his son a Dash in the sim. Nice collection of liveries for it and it has got better and better. A lot of under the hood stuff with systems, electrics, nav systems and instrument displays. Not completely 100% but very close to real thing. I flew the Dash 8 for real and so can lets say it now is very realistic indeed and a nice steady turboprop to enjoy. Manky also looks after the Dash 8 300 and the Dash 8 400 or Q400 all which have got the same treament. Some work to come re FMODs and texture tidy up but hey its also free so how can one complain. A very nice simulator model indeed! Drivers seat view Flight was early morning from Narrabri to Sydney via Dubbo, XP12 SimHeaven and Real Weather. Nothing else.
September 19, 20232 yr Author Actually this was August but hey - 01082022 - Fancy some early heavy iron the Boeing 707 in this case the 720B (ala the 138). Superb effort by Japanese modeller Shensee - All the goodies, PBR, Model selection, and a host of liveries about for it. Does the dutch roll slowly and almost imperceptibly in the cruise - that is an accurate model. The view leaving Sydney
September 20, 20232 yr Author Me n Xplane 200923 The amazing Fiesler Storch now for XP12 - Brilliant rendition of a very interesting airplane indeed - DHopgood and a team made this one possible. Behaves like a Fiesler. Great fun so far floating around Northern Libya. Strictly VFR this one.
October 14, 20232 yr Test flying some mods I did to the default Kingair C90B over England. The most obvious is the winglets which I had to model from scratch because there is zero licensing information for those used by other modded C90Bs for XP11. After having spent like three days in Blender with a complete restart, they turned out quite okay. Note: This is not supposed to be a representation of the BLT winglet kit for the real C90. Also visible is Autoortho, which is quite nice once it manages to completely load a tile. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
October 15, 20232 yr Author A new arrival in XPlane 12 - the Fokker F27 Friendship. Again a purely amateur or non-payware effort which comes with over 5 different versions including the Fairchild Hiller FH227 version. Stunning work by a Japanese master Mr Flyingtak. About 90% functional with a few little issues but nothing serious. Flies very well in the sim indeed. F27 Passenger version the F27 at Reykyavik in Iceland. And the 500 Cargo version. The paints are non standard and done for fun - in the library at XPlane, org
October 15, 20232 yr I really like his aircraft selection, but I just wish he took the extra time to model the original controls on the overhead panel. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
October 15, 20232 yr Author Bjoern, I can but agree re some of it. It seems that Flyingtak is not that hot on coding things, his magic is in Blender/Gimp. He works alone and does not speak english so communication is a bit fraught. While he has done several old turboprops; the YS-11, the L-188 Electra, the P3 Orion and now the Friendship it has been a real struggle to get him to change or understand some things. One major weakness is for whatever reason Flyingtak never does opening and closing doors (???) and I and several others tried for several months to get him to change the engine gauges on the L188 even providing mockups and png images to get the right power dials (the underlying issue - coding a new guage rather than using a stock XP Plane guage. Flyingtak has also struggled with the new XP12 external lighting and the need to write the code for these objects (Then again the LR Manual and notes on this issue are out of date and useless). I patch for myself what I can but Blender/Gimp is beyond me (Just cannot be bothered to learn all this now) and object creation and attachment is fairly esoteric. That said he does beautiful work, he does it for free and he has given XPlane users a wonderful collection of old turboprops. Edited October 15, 20232 yr by coastaldriver
October 15, 20232 yr Author Some other stuff from Flyingtak. The Shinmaywa US-1 The Lockheed Electra L-188 The NAMC YS-11 and the P3 Orion These have all been produced and published by Flyingtak in the last 12 months - prodigious output indeed.

You don't need to code to implement basic overhead functionality like battery switches or similar. It's all animations and 3D manipulators in Blender. And I don't understand the fuss about 3D gauges. If he is able to animate a complex landing gear assembly, a measly 3D needle with some keyframes driven by a default dataref should not be an issue at all. But if lack of proficiency in English to understand user interfaces and documentation comes into play, well... 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
October 17, 20232 yr Author Me n Xplane17102023 Flyingtak F27 - La Palma in the Canary Islands via Hierro to Teneriffe North. Interesting flight Canary Islands weather is fickle and displayed in the sim session realistically. Strong winds for take off and landing at La Palma and Hierro. Mod shear and ocnl turbulence near lee of the islands, Vis good but with oceanic haze, cavok. One go around at Hierro due wind and turbulence and changed of runway to sneak around the bluff of the southern part of the island and get in for a tight short field with downdrafts on final. All good to Teneriffe until at about 10 mile when the notorious Atlantic Fog developed over between me and Teneriffe, The rendition of the fog was well done and spot on! Continued on with NDB approach and arrived visual and clear of fog some time later. Departing La Palma
