I really Love Historic Weather....

Featured Replies

And the job ASP3dV6 does, bringing back really interesting weather situs that I want to experiment in the sim.

This is indeed a remarkable feature I was deeply missing during my hiatus into other platforms, but now that I'm back to where I should never have diverted, it's good to enjoy it again.

Active Sky does it in a consistent way, and having access to historic data (METAR, TAF, GRIB ...) from official sources it's nice to check that it's done with attention to detail and accuracy!

Back to "business" 🙂

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I enjoy it too. I can fly a route at the time of the scheduled airline route, if I choose, when I get home in the evening and use weather at the time of the actual flight.

Intel I7 6700k @ 4ghz, nVidia 3070ti 8gb, 16 gb ddr4 @ 1066mhz,  500 ssd, 2tb hdd, 2tb ssd, ASUS z170-E mb, Samsung 24" @ 1920x1080, P3D 5.4, MSFS

My favorite feature as well. 🙂 I usually love to do morning flights in the sim, but I have the time to do it after 11pm, so...

BTW other platforms only can be referred to MSFS, as I use ActiveSkyXP in both XP11/12, usually with Historic Weather.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Same here.  Couldn't be without it.

Doing a flight right now KBNA-KSEA on Aug 21, 2023 using P3Dv5.4, Active Sky, and Radar Contact.  Super realistic.

Dave

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

Same here, if I can't do historical weather, it renders flight simulation rather pointless for me.  HiFi ASP3D6 does an outstanding job with historical weather ... I search for bad weather at locations where I have 3rd party airports and/or scenery and that usually means going back in time.  Weather planning is such a significant aspect and having the ability to do historical planning in my own time is key.

Yes, Active Sky makes it cross-platform 🙂

It would be great if one day we could see extend even to Aerofly FS, and combat sims like DCS World... and other professional platforms like ELITE and Airlinetools which use only METAR data.

Ohhhh, don't let me to talk about Aerofly FS2/4, Such an amazing sim in VR, but so much potential wasted. But after latest beta update where you can stream world ortho with amazingly detailed autogen, it's really small step from being amazing really. Only thing it needs atm is updated visuals,  the ability to inject real world weather and the devs should open the sim data to external apps (for A Pilot's Life v2 for example). Although I corrected the brightness and colors in VR via ReShade, it's still way off MSFS and XP.

I was testing the streamed ortho scenery on few locations around EU, and found myself doing an south approach to Liverpool, just over the city. The amount of buildings you can see in that sim, in native VR fps, just blows away EVERY SIM OUT THERE out of the water. Thousands of buildings visible, it looked surreal.
