DC-3 auto pilot nav mode

Featured Replies

Flying the DC-3 with the latest Duckworth mod as of 10/4. I am flying the retro panel with the Bendix King auto pilot. Everything works fine except for the NAV mode. I dial in a VOR frequency on the Nav radio and the needle on the panel points to it so I know it is working. I turn on the auto pilot and select NAV but that feature does not work, Heading mode works, but not NAV. It reads ROLL in the auto pilot panel. I fly other planes with the same auto pilot and the NAV mode works in them. It is just the DC-3. Anyone having the same problem? Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks

Not sure if this helps, but I found a link to the DC3 AP when using the Duckworth mod:

Yes, blue lever.

Also make sure you switched vom VLOC to GPS in the bottom right of the GPS screen, at least if you want to follow a flightplan. Switch it back to make the plane follow a VOR OBS, obviously. 😉

EDIT: my bad didnt read correctly. For the autopilot to follow VOR you need to dial it in at the GPS screen (NAV1) and not on the nav radio, which is NAV2.

Re the Blue Lever

It's behind 1st Officer seat. Its a bit fiddly with the mouse pointer, but you need to pull the lever out then tilt it forward. Both movements are short & from memory it was actually a hold  & drag with the mouse pointer. In fact the initial 'pull' movement may be a hold the left mouse button down &  'push' on the hub at the top of the lever. Then hold the left mouse button down on the lever,& pull forwards.

Anyhow, you need both movements to turn AP on.

NAV works but as Soulflight mentioned, you need GPS showing in the GPS not VLOC.

Also helps to be fairly close to the Magenta line for NAV to lock on. If you are heading towards Magenta line AP may show ROLL with NAV below, then NAV only when you hit the line & the DC-3 turns to align on the line.

Fiddly, but it works.

Clarification

I think if the Garman GPS is in VLOC, then NAV won't work.

Thanks for that. I will give it a try in GPS

Just noticed that the NAV feature does not work on ANY of the stock or addon aircraft in my program. When I activate the button, NAV flashes just for a second in the window, then changes to ROLL.

Thanks
