November 2, 20232 yr I have been running MSFS for just about a year and performance (smoothness of motion) has been quite good with most sliders all the way or almost all the way to the right. The one area where I have some challenges is when I am landing at an airport where the scenery on both the left and right sides of the airport has a high density of trees (KHPN RWY 16 is an example). I have moved the slider for GRAPHICS options TREES and GRASSES AND BUSHES a couple of notches to the left, I see an improvement but I am not there yet. I don't have this problem when landing on islands or in airports near urban areas with a high density of buildings. Other than the two settings above, does anyone know what other settings in GRAPHICS I can tweak to address this issue ? Thanks. zachlog

I think that airports will always be the ultimate challenge.. Lots of detailed scenery and traffic close up.. Only a faster system is going to really help.. Bert
November 2, 20232 yr I have my Trees / Bushes in the LOW... Still plenty of it for my liking and comparing to RW given the huge sizes trees still have im MFS, and less impact. Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
November 2, 20232 yr The two sliders that make the most difference are the render scale if you use TAA. Otherwise the LOD slider. Generally reducing the airport traffic, vehicles and people and a bit less road traffic will make landings and takeoffs smoother as well. For me, the scenery precache setting makes quite a difference but TrackIR is jittery if I don't set that one to ultra. The situation where this problem the most acute is landing KHPN/Rwy 16. No buildings, very few aircraft if any but lots of gorgeous trees. zachlog

I have already reduced these two settings to MEDIUM and there is some improvment but not there yet. LOW will be next. Thanks ! zachlog

Where are they ? zachlog

TAA stands for Temporal antialiasing and LOD for level of detail. If you don't use DLSS then you can improve performance by reducing the render setting to 90or 80 and you can reduce the LOD from the default 200 to 150 or even 100. Whilst both can increase performance, of course it comes at the expense of reducing the appearance a little too. November 2, 20232 yr Author If the lower settings I am testing for TREES and GRASSES AND BUSHES do not eliminate the stutters, I will try your recommendations. I had reduced the LOD to 150 when I had first installed MSFS about a year ago, just forgot about it. Thanks. zachlog
