FS Global Real Weather Engine?

Featured Replies

Just wondering anyone's thoughts on or experiences with this weather engine by FS Global, it's currently on sale:

I use Rex SkyForce for P3Dv5 just because it's what I've always used for FSX for years.  Now I'm thinking of trying a different weather engine and this one looks interesting.  Pilots FSG does make some fantastic products.  I have their B314 The Clipper Profressional and also have the latest version of their global mesh installed and it's amazing, the best mesh you can get.  I know Active Sky is the most widely used by P3D users it seems and many claim it's the best but I've also seen some say this one by FS Global is too.

I used it with XP11. Liked it, although I am rather biased towards Active Sky 🙂

Don't knowhow it goes with Xp12 though....

Good to know you liked the X-Plane version.  I use Active Sky for XP11 as well and it is pretty good, I use it with the free cloud textures called Y Clouds 4 over at x-plane.org and it's a nice combo.  Though Skyforce is decent and has served me well over the years for FSX and P3D, I'm just looking to try something different.  Some have said in the past that Skyforce is not the most accurate compared to the other two engines.  I don't know if that's true or not but Skyforce has given me some very interesting looking and interesting feeling weather over the years.

Also, I've seen the look of Active Sky Cloud Art in plenty of screenshots and I think the REX cloud textures are actually better looking in my opinion so I will probably stick with the REX textures.  I don't even know for sure if the Active Sky engine works well with REX textures or not.  It does say in the FS Global Real Weather description it works with all cloud textures.

I use FS Global all the time with P3Dv5.4 and I'm very happy with it. Well worth getting I`d say. I use it with P3D stock EA .

Thanks for your input, for the sale price I think it's worth a shot.  I've never messed with EA and volumetric clouds yet.  It would be interesting to try it that way.  I do have a good enough PC that volumetric clouds shouldn't be a problem.

Is compatible with the weather radars of PMDG and FSLabs?

PS: But if Volumetric Clouds isn't compatible, there's not much point...

Just be careful as to what they are actually offering, I got caught out by them.

I think EA with legacy clouds from REX is best option available.

Volumetric clouds are still buggy - u have waffles patterns, sudden and nasty weather updates, one type of cloud

I don't understand what you mean?  Are they being deceptive about the product or something?

That's interesting, I didn't know about those issues with the volumetric clouds.  I will definitely have to try it with EA and REX for sure.

REX cloud textures have always looked fantastic to me.  I remember the first time way back the first time I loaded FSX with REX clouds and I was blown away.  Even today they still look great.  At least in P3Dv5 I don't have to worry about VAS so I can finally use the 4k textures 😁

It is compatible with volumetric clouds.  As I said before, it works with all types of clouds and cloud textures.  At least that's what it says in the product description.

I found them to be misleading it terms as to how many licences are needed to be purchased, may be it was just me?

However, when I contacted the company. I found them quite arrogant and I certainly will not spend my money with them again.

But are volumetric clouds represented on the airplanes' weather radar? I have the impression that they are not...

Ok I see.  I don't blame you for being upset, especially with a bad customer service experience.

Your best bet would be to contact the developers and ask.  It is a good question to know.  Here's their contact email address I pulled from their website: [email protected]
