"Official" folder

Featured Replies

Just wondering what will happen if I delete the OneStore\Official folder.  Will it just re-download the folder\files when I next run MSFS ?   The reason I ask is I'm trying to move the Community and Official folders to a new location with a shorter folder name however having problems.  I can move the Community folder without any problems which to me is the important one as it has all my add-ons.

I don't mind if I need to have all the stuff in the Official folder downloaded again and when it does at least I can select the updated folder location at the same time when the installer prompts me to.

Thanks

If you cannot move the Official folder, then you most likely will find that you cannot delete it either.
To do so would be catastrophic unless your internet connection is very fast and unlimited.
With a handful of addons and all of the 15 World Updates, the Official folder is some 331 GB.

It would be a far better bet to follow instructions such as these on moving the installation.

Yeah, it's unlimited so that's not an issue.  Speed isn't an issue either, I'm not in a hurry and have other things to do while it's downloading anyway (or sleep).  So, it's a "yes" that I can just delete it and have it download again ?

I'll check that video out as well. Thanks

Yes, you can, but you will need to separately reinstall all of the world updates as well
It would be much easier and less risky to just move it as described in the video.

I've read somewhere that you can copy all of the packages folder to a new location and then change the entry in UserCfg.opt which says InstalledPackagesPath. It is positioned on the last line in that file. Search for the file UserCfg.opt in the C:\Users folder.

Disclaimer: I am not certain about this, since I did not try it myself so best thing to do is, do a research about what I've written above.

This works just fine, if you can move the folder.. Otherwise the "Move" command in the Apps menu will do it for you.

I managed to get the Official folder moved to a new location with a shorter folder name, along with the Community folder (did a reboot of my PC and it finally worked for some reason).  Changed the folder location in UserCfg.opt to reflect the new folder I created however now I get "you are missing packages that are essential to run Microsoft flight simulator please update the application and try again".

Any ideas ?

Double check the new folder structure.

I have, it's the same as original except now they are in a folder called D:\Games\MSFS.  Moved the Community and Official folders directly into it.

The line at the end of the UserCfg.opt says:

InstalledPackagesPath "D:\Games\MSFS"

Will check and report

Correction.. does the Official folder have a OneStore folder in it?

If yes, can you go to the MS Store or XBox app and update the application?

Yeah, it does.  It was a straight move from the original folder structure.

Should work... reboot and try again... Update app if necessary..

Did the reboot already.  I don't have options to do anything apart from "quit" once that error message comes up.  Very odd.

I downloaded the Official folder again so MSFS starts again and I have all the default planes working fine which is great.

Now, the problem I have now is that after coping my Community folder over with all my add-on aircraft they do not appear. They show in Content Manager as "not installed".  Nothing has changed in terms of folder structure, was just a straight copy of the Community folder from the old to the new location.   I can't even open any txt or cfg files in the folder so seems to be a permissions issue however I've been unable to locate it.  I have full admin access to everything on my PC and it's only in the Community folder that I can't open any of the files.

If I re-install the add-ons, have tried on a couple, they work but I have a lot of them so assumed just coping the Community folder would work and save a lot of time

Any more ideas ?
