Some Hopeful News for Allergy Sufferers

Featured Replies

Interesting research. I suffer seasonal allergies.  Fortunately, they are not debilitating, but I now have to wear a mask while cutting the grass in the spring.  When I was younger, I did not have to wear a mask, so my seasonal allergies have worsened as I have aged.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Severe tree nut allergy myself.  I have grandchildren with peanut, egg allergies too.  It's very difficult to deal with and deadly effects are so possible.  I sincerely hope and pray that one day the secret to turning off these allergies will be available as optimistically stated in that article.

I take a daily OTC allergy pill before going to bed at night.  Sure keeps me breathing easily. 🤧

I started being allergic to birch tree pollen in my 30s. I took over-the-counter antihistamines which worked well at first but, over the years, gradually lost their effectiveness. Then I switched to annual injections and the same thing happened so I tolerated the discomfort but, during my 70s, I noticed the symptoms becoming less and less until now, in my 80s, the symptoms are so mild that I don't even notice them. Maybe that's normal and you just have to be patient.

I've used the daily OTC allergy pills for several years, after a while, they do lose their efficacy.  I now only use them when the pollen levels are high.  Allergies getting better with advanced age?  As we age, our immune systems tend to decline, so maybe less seasonal allergy issues.  Also, many people people go outdoors less as they age, so less exposure to pollen can result in the appearance of diminished allergic response.
