February 16, 20242 yr No, this isn’t related to the SU15 beta. So I spend most of my limited time flying GA in VFR so typically I’m running clear skies or maybe a light cloud preset, I never use live weather. Recently I’ve been testing out a Quest 3 for VR so again running in clear skies with nothing additional to get a baseline for performance but I’ve also been learning the ropes for IFR. Now I’ve finally settled on the optimal settings for VR in the Quest 3, I decided to switch to live weather over the past week for a change of pace when we have had some stormy weather here in the UK. What a stunning experience. Sitting on the runway ready for take off. Rain hitting the windscreen and some low level cloud up ahead. Take off and fire up AP in Nav mode as I climb up into the clouds. The rain dissipates but the wind is giving a very turbulent flight. I’m watching the aircraft crabbing into the wind on the GTN750 as the AP fights to keep us on course. Nothing to see outside other than grey cloud so it’s a very isolating experience as you rely on the instruments and AP to do its thing. I pass through a small break in the cloud which restores some of your senses as you can see pockets of land below before heading back into the cloud. Getting close to approach and I hit some heavy rain. The experience as the rain starts to drive across the windshield and side windows while the sounds of it battering off the glass and cockpit roof truly hits the senses. I’m on the approach and still flying blind with nothing but cloud all around. Grey cloud all around but as I’m descending, I can start to make out the shapes of buildings beneath. I finally start to make out the runway lights as they slowly come into view and while the rain is easing off, I’m still flying through a murky drizzle. As I approach the decision height, I have clear sight of the runway and disable AP as I hand fly the final stretch while compensating for a bit of a crosswind. Finally down, it’s both a sense of achievement and relief as I taxi to the parking spot with light rain still falling. I’ve been so focused on specific types of flying, it was a rewarding experience just to set it up as live and fly what is in front of me. This sim is simply stunning in VR! February 16, 20242 yr Let's see how long this topic continues here before it gets moved to the VR forum. The two letters, VR, in this forum or any suggestions of using MSFS with VR in *this* forum is highly discouraged. You've been warned! 🙂

It just so happens that I was flying in VR when had this change of direction hence why I mentioned it. Live weather is not a VR exclusive. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. I could move my head left/right as fast as I could, and still no signs of scenery re-loading or other typical pc side effects. I think GA and VR pilots are getting to most out of SU15. imagine flying your flight back in the days when we didn't have Garmins, single pilot in weather like that and worse. try that in MSFS for a change just using your VORs and see how far you get. add to this loss of orientation and some vertigo in the mix. that adrenalin rush is something no simulator will ever be able to recreate. but VR in MSFS is the closest to reality I have ever experienced in any sim. how could we otherwise still be enjoying, many of us on a daily basis, the same "game" over and over now for nearly 4 years. February 17, 20242 yr Heh. I tried this in the Jenny. I always fly live weather, and when I loaded in I was in the middle of a downpour. Eh. -shrug-. Take off anyway. It's a sim, nothing bad will happen. That was a very short flight. 😄 Guess I'm a modern-only pilot in IMC. 😁 Edited February 17, 20242 yr by eslader Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
