MSFS Auto FPS App

Featured Replies

  • Author

MSFS_AutoFPS 0.4.5.7 has just been formally released, available either through auto update in the app or from here. My thanks goes out to all who provided valuable feedback during the test phase.

This update improves MSFS compatibility handling, adds a delayed landing gear flight profile option, enhances installer detection, and delivers a suite of stability and logging fixes.

Executive Summary

This release strengthens compatibility handling, adds new flight profile flexibility, improves installer intelligence, and delivers a series of targeted fixes and optimisations:

  • Smarter Compatibility Updates: When MSFS version checks fail, the app now guides users with fallback update options, clear probability labels, and a direct “Report” action — reducing downtime after simulator updates.
  • New Flight Profile Option: Introduced Delay Landing Gear (DelayLG) mode, allowing base TLOD reduction to be postponed until gear‑down, giving pilots finer control over performance vs. visuals.
  • Installer Enhancements: The installer now detects MSFS installations up front, aborts cleanly if none are found, and lets users choose which versions auto‑start with MSFS.
  • Robust Error Handling: Explicit handling for missing configs and missing installs ensures clear error dialogs, precise logging, and clean exits instead of silent failures or crashes.
  • Fixes & Optimisations: Numerous refinements improve stability, logging clarity, and UI behaviour — from correcting WASM folder references to eliminating redundant log spam and tightening FPS averaging logic.

That's all right. As this is a new feature, I am happy to explain. Users have become used to being able to set actual FG target FPS in AutoFPS, because that then makes sense with what FPS the app is showing, but within MSFS every FPS setting is native frame rate. Of course MS/Asobo don't tell you that it is native frame rate - we have had to work it out for ourselves - which I why native frame rate is explicitly mentioned in the AutoFPS readme.

This is my first post in these topic, so, great app. It is a game changer.

I just want to ask how do I enable Dynamic Settings, because, I have Expert mode selected, but the Dynamic option does not shows.

Thanks in advanced

That is an option (checkbox) in FS2024, not the AutoFPS app.

Ok. I have seen images of an option that shows "DynSet30" with up and down arrows. That is why i made the question.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Those buttons were there during the development phase of the app adding the dynamic setting feature so that testers could readily change this setting without having to go to the MSFS menu. You can still access these buttons by enabling TestMode in the common config file in app's root directory. eg.

You should also consult the section in the Readme on how best to use dynamic setting with AutoFPS because it is quite temperamental but can be tamed 😊

@Reset XPDR is it normal in the latest version when you switch sim rates in resets the TLOD back to minimum?

Only if your system is now struggling to keep up at faster sim rates and can't maintain target FPS then yes, down your TLOD will go.

I have a 5090 and a 9950x3D. When i switch sim rates the TLOD goes back to 50 for about 15sec and then climbs back to 200. FPS is 130fps with a target of 64.

While the app shows any change in sim rate, it does nothing with it directly unless it impacts performance with your existing settings so it is likely something is dipping performance for at least a few seconds.

I'd need to see the log to really know what's going on. Message me the contents (can't attach files directly here unfortunately) of your applicable log file, located in %appdata%\MSFS_AutoFPS\log, and I'll take a look.

Edit: There is one instance where the app will switch profiles on a sim rate change but it specifically requires the same profile name with a matching xX suffix. eg. if you have IFR 1X and IFR 2X as separate profile names with different settings, it will auto-switch between them as you change between 1X and 2X sim rate. You've got to go out of your way to set it up like this, so I doubt this is the issue but I thought I would mention it as the only thing the app reacts to in relation to sim rate.

FYI, @Shrek1970 did uncover a bug introduced in 0.4.5.7 whereby the app always auto-resets when the sim rate changes, instead of just when sim rate flight type auto profile switching occurs. It has now been fixed in 0.4.5.8-test1 or later, available here.

I am aware that the new MSFS SU4 beta just released may not be compatible with the app. I am out and about now, so will get to it when I get home.

Edit: It wasn't a compatibility issue, rather I made a typo in the tag for the new test version, which caused anyone trying to auto update to it to experience a URL not found error message. The tag has been fixed now and auto upgrade worked on my system, so it should be good to go now. FYI, 1.6.16.0 is compatible with 0.4.5.7 and 0.4.5.8-test.

Tested and no issue with this release, thanks for fixing so quickly.

I am on version 0.4.5.7-test3 and running MSFS2024 SU4 beta.  I still get the URL error when the app tries to auto-update to 0.4.5.8-test1.  Not a big deal, as I can apparently just user 0.4.5.7 with the latest beta release.

There has been over 600 auto updates of the corrected URL since this time yesterday, so it should be working properly, even from 0.4.5.7-test3. It may still be cached on your system from yesterday. The direct link to the 0.4.5.8-test1 installer is here, which will only be available while -test1 is the latest version but you should be right from that point on with auto updates to newer version.

Think ill go back to 4.5.7 test 3

Worked extremely well before the latest you have.
