Interesting, because that number is a 5 second average and you certainly would have noticed such a long, large drop in FPS if it was really happening.

Well it was one of the hairiest approaches I've done in a while, so it is very possible that I was too flustered to notice 😉 I guess you're talking about these lines:

That's correct. Once you enable Auto Target FPS it ignores any previously set target FPS and on the ground uses 95% of your current FPS as the target (down to 85% above 3000 ft). It is greyed out because you are no longer in control of it, although you can reset it at any time by toggling Auto Targer FPS off then back on again if you want a quick re-calibration.

Thanks - I will try that, but is TLOD min * 3 the max that Auto FSP will generate? If so, then dropping to 100 would reduce my max to 300, and I currently have it at 600 in the expert settings.

Good to know about the recalibration - I had read that in your documentation, but my takeaway was that I should only set Auto FPS on while on the ground, so I didn't think I could do it while in the air and seeing a frame rate that is fine, and yet below the number it set when I had first selected it.

How will the program work with both Expert mode as well as Auto FPS mode selected?

LOL - As @Cpt_Piett would say, I am tinkering and testing! Yes, I am purposely trying to stress test so that I can understand how the program functions in marginal scenarios. It works brilliantly otherwise, so I'm pushing the boundary by making the sim struggle, like what others 😉 are doing with massively high TLOD settings.

It is non-expert mode, not Auto Target FPS, that sets TLOD Max to 3 x default TLOD. I was thinking of increasing it to 4x, but this also increases the size of the altitude band before full TLOD range is allowed. I might try 4x in a test build, but I doubt I will go any further than that as I want to cover most use cases with non-expert mode.

It would depend on how long those drops lasted for though, wouldn't it?

So is expert mode with Auto Target FPS a possible good combination for my needs in highly congested and problematic sceneries?

They are at least 5 seconds for the average to drop this low, which you surely would have noticed. Sound's like a log issue I'll look into.

Landed at ENZV in the Fenix, ILS APPR starts at 1500ft. It did seem smooth most of the time, although I've gotten used to flying with FG-FPS locked at 80 for the past few weeks. I'll end the flight and change TLOD in main menu.

Actually, I think I know what the issue is with the log. I'd say at those times you took focus away from MSFS and, being in FG, your FPS halved but my log file doesn't currently take that into account. It will soon!

@Cpt_PiettUpon further investigation, the log file is showing the correct FPS for the sim at the time when FG goes inactive and your FPS halves. The app knows this and factors it in correctly for its adjustments, so everything is working correctly. For once, nothing for me to fix! 🤪😄

On second thoughts, I'll make some sort of annotation in the log file for FG active versus inactive log entries.

Well, I successfully changed TLOD and OLOD in the menu while AutoFPS was running. Verified by seeing same values in usercfg.opt. Still in full-auto mode, still in the Fenix, just departed from ENZV for EGKK. The FG-FPS is still a tiny bit low though, bit marginal for FG / G-Sync. However - it's smooth. Which is the most important thing - not FPS. 

Still, at the risk of sounding like your greatest fan-boy* (I know that's gonna change into word not allowed lol) - I have to once again commend you for your tireless work. This IS your best build so far. Now we can *almost* have the cake and get to eat it too. 

*avid supporter is the word you used a few hundred posts back I believe
