April 21, 20242 yr I built a new PC for FSMS, and am not sure about some steps while reinstalling it : Should I uninstall previously MSFS at the old PC in order to prevent problems with licence, etc ? For the reinstall process should i just ingress at my Microsoft account and find the product there ? As I have the Packages /Community/Oficial, folder installed at other disk, which I plan to keep in my new Pc, I asume I can install only the basic game and use my old Packages folder, is it OK ? Addons as PDMG aircraft and others which are installed in diferent Windows folders, should be uninstalled previously at the old PC ? Some other advise or tips related ? Thanks
April 22, 20242 yr Moderator Pretty much yes to all. There are several tutorials on the exact procedure re Packages, sorry don 't have a link. IIRC (check first) you start the new install, stop, copy over the Packages and resume the install. PLEASE double check that before doing it. All in all it shouldn 't be too difficult, just don't rush. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
April 22, 20242 yr I found it to be quite painless but had the same questions. In the end I just preserved my Community folder somewhere and then everything else had to be reinstalled which if you've kept access to all your license numbers etc should be just a procedure to work through at your own pace. I found that the cloud or whatever it is seemed to remember all my controller configs too which is great. April 22, 20242 yr You: I built a new PC for FSMS, and am not sure about some steps while reinstalling it : Should I uninstall previously MSFS at the old PC in order to prevent problems with license, etc ? Me: No, in my opinion you should not. There is nothing in the terms of service agreement limiting MSFS to one installation. Doing what you want to do, I would just reinstall what you have over to the new compute. You: For the reinstall process should i just ingress at my Microsoft account and find the product there ? Me: Yes! You: As I have the Packages /Community/Oficial, folder installed at other disk, which I plan to keep in my new Pc, I assume I can install only the basic game and use my old Packages folder, is it OK ? Me: Yes. You: Addons as PDMG aircraft and others which are installed in different Windows folders, should be uninstalled previously at the old PC ? Me: I'm not sure but I would say yes. You: Some other advise or tips related ? Thanks Me: Youtube is your friend, and their search engine is solid. April 22, 20242 yr Install the base app in the new PC, through xBox Windows app, bt do not run it. Copy the main folder of your install into the new PC / disk, or if it is the same disk now mounted on the new PC then you don't even have to copy anything 🙂 Start MSFS and when the UPDATE screen pops-up, make sure you change the default patch (clicking on it to select the full path string) and change it to the folder on the new PC install which could probably be exactly the same if you ported the disk partition to the new PC and it got the exact same letter designator... I usually do not port any Community addons other than those I am absolutely sure didn't install anything outside that folder. Products with a custom install / installer should be reinstalled afterwards. Good luck!
