Delta plane fire after arriving at gate at KSEA

Recommended Posts

Video of the fire that broke out just after the Delta plane arrived at the gate at KSEA on May 6th with the evacuation of passengers from the slides and emergency exits on the wings of the plane.

What seemed strange to me besides the 6 minutes that passed before the arrival of a fire brigade vehicle... after the fire had fortunately been extinguished, was the total lack of portable fire extinguishers near the plane which they could use the employees on the track.

It was the worst response I have ever seen for any emergency of this nature. they had to walk around fire extinguishers to go on and ignore the fire.

I see only traffic cones. Where are the fire extinguishers?

I liked the baggage handlers that slowly walked away, with no care in the world. Should have hit the external power shutoff,1st thing, I wonder if the plug was inserted backwards?

Out of view of the shot next to the terminal, same in every airport.

My guess is the baggage handlers don't have fire fighting in their union contract, so it was a matter of "not my job."

One of my old AF buddies retired a few years ago as a captain from Delta, and told me a story about how one day they landed late, and several pax on his jet were running very late for their connections and waiting on the jetway for their strollers to be brought up from the ramp.  He said there were a bunch of guys standing around on the ramp and nobody helping--he went down to the ramp and brought them up to them, only to have some baggage handler complain that he was violating union rules by doing their job for them.
