Restoring joystick profile ...

Featured Replies

Recently for reason or reasons unknown my copy of the sim reset and in the process I lost my joystick settings ... have been

to Steam Cloud and downloaded a saved version of my profiles... can someone advise as to whether I can reset the profile for use, and if so,

how do I do it ...??

Sorted ... one of these situations where you don't really know what you did ... saw somewhere the suggestion to run the game offline ... did that then restarted with wifi back on and lo and behold ...

All the controller profiles, even the ones you have deleted, are stored on your local computer. But the ones you changed and did not rename only store the latest version.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

So if you want one that you are now going to change to be saved as it was, then rename the new version. Both are now saved.

EDIT: I have not tested this recently. But a year and a half or so after MSFS was first released, I went to that folder. I had 18 months worth of profiles saved. Lots and lots of them. Most were no longer listed in the game's controllers window. But they were still there locally and could be manually retrieved into the sim, from outside the sim.

I'm not sure what was stored in the cloud.

To retrieve these old profiles, I used notepad and changed some text near the top of the profile file. I don't remember how I did it.

There was one sim update long ago that everyone said was deleting profiles. That's when I went and retrieved them manually because the sim update had deleted mine.

Meanwhile a new version of the sim update fixed it automatically for everyone else. So what I did was not necessary, I could have just waited for the sim update fix.

I believe they are "Cloud" based. I have lost my Controller profiles (Panic City!) and the solution to recover them was actually quite simple. All you do is unplug your controller(s)...Load MSFS...Plug them back in and the profiles should be restored.
