July 10, 20241 yr Last July 8, a United Boeing 757-200 from Los Angeles to Denver lost a wheel after takeoff which fell on an airport employee's car, fortunately without causing any injuries. Other pilots reported the wheel falling to the tower which then notified the crew of the United flight who decided to continue to Denver where after declaring an emergency they landed without further problems on 34L. This is the second wheel separation incident for United this year. In this video you can see, after takeoff from SFO, a wheel detaching from a United 777 headed to Osaka in March. The wheel fell in a car park, damaging several cars, but fortunately there were no injuries there either. https://x.com/i/status/1765858363529642312
July 11, 20241 yr Denver is obviously a high altitude location, which means a higher than normal true airspeed and thus higher ground speed on landing, which to me seems an interesting choice to continue there with reported damage to the undercarriage. Just thinking out loud , don’t mind me, been a long day. 787 captain. Previously 24 years on 747-400.Technical advisor on PMDG 747 legacy versions QOTS 1 , FS9 and Aerowinx PS1.
