Random computer shutdowns at high load

I appreciate the suggestion. I did do a stress test on my GPU last night; ran at 90%+ usage the entire time and didn't break a sweat (highest temp was 61C, but stayed in the 50's most of the time). Passed with flying colors.

Well, at least its one more thing you can eliminate as as the cause.  I also only fly in VR, but I do not have the Quest, so I don't know much about that unit.  As you know VR his very demanding and puts a higher load on your system.   I still think you have a power issue, or something shorting out.  For your PC to instantly and completely power down, with no indicator lights, is usually some sort of power issue.

I agree with you there, that really does seem like the root cause. I finally broke down and took it in to a local computer shop here hoping they can get to the bottom of it. I figure worst case scenario is they can't figure it out and I'm only out $60.

First, make sure that your power cord is firmly seated, both at the wall and at the PSU.  I had a problem like this long ago and (embarassingly) it turned out the power connector was loose.

Agreed! I had the same problem exactly last night and thought my hardware was bad. In fact my exhaust fans on the water cooler had turned off. Half of the things I was doing on the computer would not work, and half were working. At one point the computer just went dark, but only after briefly these symptoms were occurring.

I was going to take the system apart and the first step was to turn the power switch off and unplug at the back of the computer. The plug seemed a tiny bit loose. I reset it and booted up. Now the cooling fan was running and the strange behavior in programs entirely cured.

My desktop sit slightly to my right on the floor. I had jostled the power cable with my leg or foot working the rudder pedals (I think).
