July 21, 20241 yr Author I used Malwarebytes many years ago and am considering trying again. However, I'm not sure if there is a free version still available and if so, would it suffice or is the payware version necessary should I decide to go that route? July 22, 20241 yr Well, the late NickN suggested using Malwarebytes for on-demand scans as a second line of defense (but he used to like NOD32 instead as his primary line). The freeware version is enough for that. That was about 10 years ago. I still heed his advice (although I use Defender instead of NOD32). July 22, 20241 yr 4 hours ago, Luis Hernandez said: Well, the late NickN suggested... Oh! Thanks for reminding me about him. Nick said that NOD32 used so few resources that it wasn't worth the time to turn it off for the flight sim. I got the xupiter virus. I tried a few free virus scaners which didn't find the virus. Then I remembered Nick's advice and did ESET's free online scan, which not only found the virus but cleaned it as well. I paid for ESET's security package the same day and have been using it ever since. Been a few years now. Hook Edited July 22, 20241 yr by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! July 23, 20241 yr Author I was surprised today, that I turned off active threat protection in order to fly a flight for my va, and it stayed off for the duration of the flight (~ 2 hours). I recall long ago trying that and Defender turned it back on after about 15 minutes, or so.
