Just one final note that I am trying to understand.  When you review MFS that was moved to microsoft folder/(MFS folder (550 gigs)  it appears that nothing was changed.  The MFS that remain is the 207 gigs which 12 gigs installed into the empty community folder.  The other remaining gigs was essentially the official folder. It sure would be great if I could just  copy all from the old MSF back to the existing MFS.

Maybe my problem is when I panic-ed and started MFS right away and it started installing a few old packages that took over an hour.

.  At least I can still fly some but sure missed all the good stuff.  I only have 34 gig remaining to install anything.

I think you just need to un-panic, now that you know that you have not lost anything..

As best I can tell, you have two complete sets of MSFS packages with Official and Community folders, correct?

If you read the earlier posts, you can see where the active usercfg.opt file is located.  That last line is indeed where MSFS looks for the content when it starts up.

Before changing, deleting, or moving anything, I would try a flight with each of the content locations, one at a time.  You do this by changing the last line of the usercfg.opt file to the location you want to select for the test.

If MSFS starts up correctly, you can examine which of your addons are available to you.

If then you decide that one version is good, and all you need, then I would rename the packages folder that you do not need. Just call it packages.bak.

Then start up MSFS again.. if all is still good, take a break and celebrate. If you need to save something from the packages.bak folder, now is the time!

Try flying MSFS for a few days to satisfy yourself that the packages.bak folder is not required. Then you can delete the packages.bak folder, which should give you back the storage that you lost.

Word of caution.. do not rush through this!  Take your time.

You have a working MSFS install, and all you are doing, is cleaning up 🙂

  • Can't say this enough: Get Addon Linker -- the best free add-on there is for MSFS2020 -- and store all of your add-ons in a separate folder, preferably on a different drive from MSFS to conserve space

Thanks Bert for your comments.  I have settled down and started getting MSFS up and  going. I have made some backups on important folders and moving data from the "old"MFS to the so called new MFS.  As you mentioned I ended up with two MFS .I have started transferring data from the old community to the new community folder. This is a slow process but so far all is working. At least I now can delete some scenery, planes etc which I really don't need.  Once all this is completed should delete more from the old MSFS. I should have a little more Gigs to add new scenery etc,

I really couldn't get back up into the air without all you folks.

Fielder, if you are on, just want to thank-you for all your help.  As Bert stated will slow down and relax and enjoy what I have.
