TFDI MD-11 GPWS

Featured Replies

Anyone else have trouble inhibiting the warnings? I was flying traffic patterns yesterday, GPWS inhibit was pressed, but the plane still kept yelling "don't sink" over and over again all the way around the pattern.

I don’t think you can disable the “Don’t Sink” or “Pull Up” on any aircraft in real life.  You might be able to get rid of the “terrain” calls, but the others may not be able to.  I’m not sure how you’d have to fly a circuit to get them to not appear; probably a mixture of airspeed, altitude and flaps so the system is sort of “starting over” from its POV.

Pushing TERR OVRD Switch diables enhanced GPWS features during TO/APP/LDG and should be used within 15NM of RWY not contained in EGPWS database and did not affect Basic GPWS modes (this can only done by pushing the Ditching SW). But since EGPWS is not included in TFDI MD11 the TERR OVRD SW seems to be without function. Best regards

Not wishing to cross-pollinate this with B727 stuff, but on our aircraft (IRL) we had occasion to take some foreign embassy military personal on a scenic flight around the South Island of New Zealand. This involved some close-ish but safe approaches in visual conditions to rising terrain, which as we expected, activated the GPWS. Since we had the flight deck door open to allow the pax to take turns coming up front to see the views, it was considered best for the FE to pull the CB and that put paid to the "Pull Up" call outs.

Cheers

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!
