Hey guys I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU from a 3080ti  to a 3090 what's your opinions.

I would like a 4090 but cannot afford it ATM .

I can get a 4080 super thats my budget.

But i would like the extra vram.of the 3090

I have a 7950x3d.

Thanks

Mike

If 4K is what you want the 4090 or 4080.    I have the 4080 with 16 gig vram. I wanted the 4090 but also couldn't afford it and I also needed a bigger power supply.

CPU: Intel i9-11900K @5.2 / RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200 / GPU: 4080 16GB /

Well, 7900XTX is cheaper, and better.

If you can afford it, go for the 4070Ti with 16GB, that will be my planned upgrade.

Would love to go to 4080, but not wanting to pay that  extra few hundred dollars for 10% to 15% gains

I might be bias, but I feel that AMD GPUs is not very supported by MSFS, and the mainstream users are Nvidia, I have the 6750XTX, and i am not considering the 7 series anymore and going back to Nvidia.  AMD is great with pricing and VRAM ratios as well as performance, but if MSFS is your main game, i would rather go with Nvidia.

Thanks

Yeah thats a very biased take. Sorry .. Considering all consoles are using an AMD SOC and the sim is required to support the Xbox platform im surprised you came to that conclusion. I specifically chose an AMD card due to this and it has paid dividends.

Examples include...

VRAM shortage in in DX 12 not an issue.

Frame Generation

Driver based frame gen allows me to run frame gen in both DX 11 and 12 with no artifacts and good frame pacing  meanwhile you need a 4xxx gpu to get native framegen and it only applies to DX12. If you have an earlier model .. tough .. go buy a third party solution. I don't have to worry about those things period.

Nvidia dominates the PC market we all know this but its not the sole player in the market and if your objective enough you can decide for yourself what works best for your specific application.

As long as MSFS is using rasterization both GPUS are on equal footing. I will give the nod to Nvidia for being a step ahead on raytracing but that is not implemented in the sim so there is no advantage there.

Now objectively speaking .. MSFS 2024 will include some raytracing components.. Again being mindful of the fact that this product has to run on an Xbox and Asobo does not seem to want to branch the product i am going to assume the type and detail of raytracing will be light. If there is an advantage to be had to go Nvidia it will be there. Upon release of MSFS2024 if there is no performance difference between AMD and Nvidia in the raytraced implementation of MS2024 i will be purchasing the AMD product.  If the raytracing does affect performance and its in Nvidias favor i have no qualms picking up the Nvidia product.

but right now.. in my opinion the AMD product is less restrictive and performs equally as well if not slightly better (in some scenarios) than the Nvidia product for MSFS2020.

I respect your opinion 🙂

But this is not 2004 anymore, on ATi days I can say easily " go nvidia ". But now, for gaming, the winner combo is a 7800x3D + 7900XTX to get the most out of your budget / price ratio.

If I had the money, I only would look at the 4090.

Oh, of course, I don´t care and don´t want nothing with raytracing, if you want it, go nvidia, obviously.
