I have 14900KF, with DDR4, and it runs MSFS2024 and VR paired with 9070XT, it runs very well without any hicups. The chip overclocks very well and as long as you are feeding enough power, at vcore 1.24, it overclocks Pcore at 6.0 or 6.1 with Ecores at 4.5, but i run the Pcores at 5.9 and Ecores at 4.5 and I am happy with it. It does run hot, but if you have a good aircooling or watercooling, it will be fine. DDR5 ram right now is very expensive, so AMD, I would rule it out if you want to upgrade during this time.

You system setup is not bad. I am currently using Q3 and the experience is not bad, as long as your settings are in the high and with some ultra settings, and setting some environments to low. I am currently using Virtual Desktop for the wireless connection. Using AUTO FPS will help with the VRAM issue. No sure with SU4 now, but i was able to use Frame Generation before in VR with usercfg. I do have rolling cache set at 110GB on a different drive. As for the frame rate in VR, i can achieve close to 75 to 80FPS, with about 85ish latency to 90s using detailed airports with inibuilds A350, PMDG 777 and BravoAirspace 787, ...however, FBW A380 is still heavy on my machine. My setup is a i9 14900KF, 9070 XT with 64GB....i am in Toronto BTW

Depending on your personal preference, Samsung's curved monitors has a higher curvature of 180 degrees to 190 degrees, do take your pick!

Yeah, in VR, I need Frame Gen to get good experience in VR, MSFS2024, locking it at 36FPS for 72Hz in the Q3, and using Virtual Desktop, i am achieving 70FPS to 72 consistently, with 100ms to 80ish on the ground for latency. I have reduced it to 83% for horizonal and lateral FOV. While TAA is what I really liked because of the text clarity, but the FPS is like 30ish and 140 to 150ms latency. Using InibuildsA350, FBW380, PMDG 777W and F, conservative settings, ultra clouds, high texture res, most ground airport traffic off except road, other settings are at medium and i have those ground rocks and stuff to low besides buildings...

Yeah, if you are going to need to get a new MOBO and RAM, I would consider AMD as well, 7800X3D. I am on the same boat, planning to go to AMD, possibly for 9800X3D since I do VR as well. I currently using 14600K. with 9070 XT, 64GB...this combo is still pretty strong with MSFS 2024 using inibuilds A350 with custom airports, with Frame Generation,...TAA...not so much, but oh well.... it does a decent job with Virtual Display. MSFS2020 is not bad too incase that is what you are using...

Your TAA is the issue, if you select AMD FSR then your FPS should increase, combine it with your DLSS FG. Once you lock your frame rate, MSFS will stays that way, and FG will do the rest of the work. Your other setting are fine. Also, if you are comfortable, you can mess around the settings in UserCfg.opt For the power, is the card using the 600w power connection direct to the PSU? i am assuming you are not using any adaptor to convert 600w using 3 pcie 8 pin connections.

I have a 9070 xt and it runs very well in both 2D and VR in MSF2024 with a Quest 3. In VR you just need to do some tweaking and be realistic on your settings, then all is good. I am also using Virtual Display as well.

Yeah, it shouldn't need to do that. Under normal operation, once power on, if all specs are good and running altogther with stable current/power, it should just on and stays on. If restarts happens, it is either the power how interrupted due to high overclock settings (insufficient power) or MAY BE some component incompatibility (like RAM)....I am assuming you have a clean OS to being with? But if you have been using your existing hardware with 4090 without issues, then it may be the PSU

i am not a 5090 owner, but based on your specs and power on symptoms, i think you may need at 1200w or slightly higher PSU to give it a trial and error shot.

With Virtual Desktop, all you needed to do is to load VD first and then your SteamVR app, make sure to set SteamVR for your VD OpenXR runtime. And that is all. You then load the MSFS2024 within Steam VR. I believe i had to do that for F1 2025 and as well as XP12. But xbox MSFS is much easier, i just load VD and then MSFS.

There differences won't be much different comparing NVME 3.0 to 4.0, however, if you are moving to 5.0, then you MAY see some better loading times. Also, keep in mind that you have to get top of the line NVME drives to go to the top speed rather than the lower end NVMEs. I am referring to SAMSUNG EVO or PRO or WD Black or similar, Just look for the highest transfer speed for that drive size. 4TB drives are still expensive, i personally would stick with 2TB, i have majority of my system drives in NVMEs, and I am happy with my setup. For games, I have a WD Black 850X (MSFS), SN770 for C:\ i would consider Samsung PRO or similar performing line if the price is right. I also have an ADATA SX8200 for other games

I would put the MSFS2024 with a NVME instead of SSD. Personally, i have the OS and MSFS and other Community and Cache in separate NVMEs and everything seems to run faster. But that just me, others will say it is excessive, but NVME 1TB prices are pretty good these days compared to SSD, and NVME is much faster

Hmmm, my 2024 VR experience is pretty decent using virtual desktop, with frame generation enabled. Not TAA thou. Experience has been stable so far with my AMD 9070 XT and quest 3, and run with AutoFPS....yes VRAM sucks big time

Your problem is using 2 set of dual channel rams from 2 different brands. Regardless of your size combinations, it is recommend to use the same brand, type and timing for your ram. I used to have 2x32 and 2x16 to make up 48GB, no issues as all, using Ripjaws, xmp 2.0, same timing for the 2 sets of dual channel ddr4. When i decided to upgrade to all 64, I make sure I can buy the new set that is the same for my 32. Your memory test is not going to really solve your obvious issue.

The commercial invoice will state the actual value of the product being imported. It sucks for your guys (US) ordering overseas and getting huge duties/taxes and fees. We as consumers, since we do not have our brokerage or use one for importing, then we have to use UPS/DHL/Fedex own in house brokerage service, and it usually cost quite a bit then plus the fees. I am sorry, it hard not to relate this politically to a certain extend, but this is the byproduct of tariffs, we as consumers, pays for it. not the importing company or the one who sold you the product!

DDU is Display Driver Uninstaller, you can google it... Yes, i usually close web browsers as well, i only have AutoFPS, GPUz for monitoring and thats it....i can disable Anti virus as well, but yeah, i only leave what is needed running in the task bar

Yes, i think its a good time to try out MSFS2024, you can buy a xbox game pass to try it out before buying it. But others here will say differently about the overall of MSFS2024...the VR aspect of it has improved since SU1, if your GPU support frame generation, then the performance is even better now. Just make sure you close out any unnecessary programs when you run MSFS, and when you have recently updated your graphic driver, always use DDU to clean install.

Yeah I would just leave the x16 alone if i were you. Let the PCIe Lane to run at its full potential. You have a good card, don't let a NVME drive gets in the way

Honestly though, there is a reason they are putting 16GB for these mid to mid-high range cards to keep cost down and product differentiations, so that it doesn't cannibalizes the high end ones...but not like anyone can afford a 5090 these days...but 7900XTX is attainable. I can see 20GB would be something interesting to consider. If the game is nicely optimized, then 16GB is sufficient, remember, windows will also allocates ram in case that VRAM is max out on the budget. So you have both shared and dedicated VRAM working together.

I am on the fence as well. but considering 7900 XTX is nearly a 2 year old card, with 9070 xt with RDNA 4 coming this month, i would consider a newer card. Yes, for raw power, 7900 XTX is not bad when comparing it to 4080. But you cannot get new 4080 these days. I am also considering 5070 Ti because I wanted to switch back to Nvidia due to my usage with VR as well. I am currently using 6750 XT and it is not good enough for VR. So yeah, its either 9070 XT or 5070Ti for me.

TBH, i will not buy anything from ebay at that price range. When I was in high school, i am talking about more than 20 years ago, I paid for a video card for about a few hundreds USD and I never got the card i paid for. Back then I don't know what to do for a resolution....so unless the seller has a lot of ratings....even still I wouldn't bother with it nowadays... I will just wait until the retail stores and order it online. Besides, I don't like being ripped off by scalpers!
