Upgraded from 1080 to a 4070gtx HELP

Featured Replies

I just bought a new gpu and installed, I have tried everything, whenever I try to start msfs it says game crashe error code 0xc0000005 =. I have been working on this for two days and am wits end. I have unloaded almost everything from my computer, fresh install of msfs and still nothing. I even tried loading dcs and it does the same thing when trying to load into the sim. Instant crash. Wondering iif anyone has gone through this here before I return graphics card because my 1080 worked ok just getting a little old.

Thanks for the help

  • Sorry I did not read all these messages earlier. My PSU is 600 watt gold, and gpu is 4070. I never had any power problems. In other words I would have bet good money the problem was not the PSU.

Yup, I agree.  Like I consider myself to be somewhat computer literate (I graduated in Computer Science for my undergrad and I also worked as a software developer for many years).  I have also changed

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?  Or did you just drop the new card in?  You might want to get the DDU utility and use it in safe mode to fully remove the old drivers if you haven't.  Another option is to run MS's Disk Cleanup utility and have it clear the DX cache.

Windows search box: DXDIAG. Does DXDIAG show the gpu is recognized and working OK?

Sounds to me like the GPU is not getting enough power.

Two possibilities come to mind: first, the aux power cable(s) to the card are not connected or connected properly, and second, the power supply is insufficiently rated for the new card.

Try win11. I have the 4070ti Super and it runs perfectly for me.

Also I have 64GB Ram. More in my profile below. Power supply may be the problem.

yes I have a 750 w power supply, I did have to add a cord to connect the new card I ordered the correct one from amazon, I feel you guys are on to something with the power supply. I have tried using Heaven Benchmarking tool and it runs fine, but msfs and dcs won't start neither will my vr goggles. I even took out my overclock to see if that would help but no. Is there a way to test if I am getting enough power?

Thank you for the help

Doing the same thing last year I would echo the sentiment of possibly upgrading your power supply to one of the current gen with the new connector. Also when using DDU ensure you clear all shaders as well.

You could use the OCCT utility to test your various hardware components and see where the issue might be.  You can individually stress CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, and a PSU test that will load up CPU and GPU in a way that pulls a serious load from the PSU.

edit:  I just looked up the 4070's specs, 700W minimum recommended PSU.  Yeah you might want to look at a new/more powerful PSU.

edit 2:  Do you know if you have to have a single or dual rail power supply?  If you have a dual rail, make sure you haven't accidentally overloaded it by putting everything on one rail

Download MSI after burner trial and set power output real low to say 50% or even less. Does it still crash?

When you installed your new video card drivers, did you do a clean install or just write over previous drives. You should have 2 8 pin connectors going to card. 750W PS may be too low to power 4000 series card. Invest in a 1000 0r 1200W PS, do clean install of drivers and don't overclock anything until you get a stable running system, including your BIOS settings, load default BIOS then try again.
