OK, I think I'll go with the CL despite that I am not going to update my 3090 for at least another couple of years. Once that's updated to a 5090 or whatever. That will be that. Whatever I have then I'll be taking to the grave! 🤣If I go with the PlayStation VR2 it will be $750 plus another $100 for the unavailable adapter is CAD$850 plus tax so I might as well go with the Pimax for CAD$1232. Its less than $400 more plus tax so! Although I'll wait a few more weeks and see if there any black friday/cyber monday deals before I pull the trigger. And since the last VR headset I had was Samsung Odyssey Plus which I paid $299 for 😮I'll take the time to bone up on VR

Good choice! Make sure you pick up the local dimming version, it's worth it!

The 'No Local Dimming' version at $699 will be the one to get for MSFS when it's available (dimming is too dark in the sim at night).👍

It's supposed to look dark, it's a Night sky! Just in case you missed it, you have the options of: 'off, balanced, highlight, or extreme'. Extreme looks best to me. It reminds me of the time I flew back from Monterey at night, I could not see a thing below me, It was a sea darkness. I remember thinking to myself, this would be a bad time to have engine failure 😬 Another time ATC was yelling at me because he thought I might run into one of the mountain peaks around me. I was following the road below me, so he was tripping. Good times!

I already know about the settings for Local Dimming in the Pimax software.😶  I just feel LD is too dark to be useful in MSFS.  The darkness that you speak about in the real world is already modeled in the Sim when you have no moon present.  Without a moon in MSFS (as many nights have throughout the year in the real world) the sim is very dark.  You don't need LD to achieve this.  I will say if you have LD on in a no moon night scenario, the blackness would be overdone to say the least.  I haven't tried it on the 'Extreme'  setting but I had enough testing using 'Balanced' in the Longitude (picking the darkest cockpit to test from) to know that LD is a little too much on any setting in MSFS (but that's just me🧐).

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be pulling the trigger soon. You guys succeeded in changing my mind. Even my wife can't do that often! 🤣

That's subjective, I guess. In my real world experience flying at night, it was pitch black unless I was flying over a congested city, or there was a full moon, even then it was still fairly dark.

That would be a software issue then. OLED displays are turning off lights that are supposed to be black, and LD displays are dimming what's supposed to be black.

Maybe you are used to big city light pollution, and LCDs that never truly get black.

I do allot of night flying over the southwest deserts and carrier traps out in the ocean far from land using the F/A-18E and F-35.  Landing in pitch black over the water with no moon.😶  It get's no blacker than that at night.  Like you said it's subjective I guess based on what hardware (monitor/VR headset) you're using.

After sufficient hand wringing I pulled the trigger!😁 After all I did just relinquish my 55" 4K Samsung TV which was my FS display too our new two bedroom guest suite so we wouldn't have to buy another one.  A Suitable replacement 4KTV would have been about $1000 at Costco. The only reason I would need such a display for my PC is FS and Sim Racing. The 720p 32" 20 year old Samsung I'm staring at now is good enough for everything else. So I paid the trial amount for the headset only. It was CAD$912 in total with tax and shipping. I didn't bother with the wands since I know I'll never use them. If I keep it, it will be about another $250 in the app. One way or another it was this or another 55" 4KTV with excellent frame interpolation so it was a no brainer to try VR again. As I said earlier my VR headset was a Samsung Odyssey Plus which I got ride of in favour of the TV I just gave up to the wife!🤣 If it doesn't work out for me I'll go back to TrackIR and a new 4KTV. I think it said shipping in 2 to 5 weeks so it might be sometime before I get it.

I did a short flight today from KCMA to KVNY with the rain preset, and my 4080S was struggling to maintain 45 FPS. I had to lower some high settings to medium. But I was drooling seeing the reflections, scratches, and rain drops on the windshield, while sitting in a virtual cockpit seeing the city below me, surrounded by stormy clouds. It was so immersive! I never feel that immersed looking at my 4K OLED.

Once get your CL dial in and see the visuals, you are going to be wishing for a faster GPU!

Please let us know how it performs. I want to move to a Pimax Crystal from my G2, but I do not have the budget to replace my 3080Ti.

Post your specs.  That video card shouldn't be a problem.😶

I will. I've just added my specs so you can see I'm using a 3090. I'm looking forward to the 5090 but not the price! 🤣

Your existing setup should run the CL with no issues.

Yeah, I'm confident it will be good. I figure I have one more big hardware upgrade in me before I call it FS Nirvana and as you said yourself Dillon this headset has more to offer than current hardware can deliver. 🤣

Going to disagree with that statement. I can barely maintain 45 FPS with my 4080S.

I think I lost some FPS when I deleted and reinstalled the new Pimax Play and Nvidia drivers. Now I have set my CL to medium quality 🤔

You shouldn't have a problem with a 4080.  I have very smooth frames with my 4070 TI.  I'm no longer seeing the head tracking issue that much but the smoothness has been constant since I first set the headset up and dialed in the settings.  You must have something set too high which for this headset is not needed.🤔
