You shouldn't have a problem with a 4080.  I have very smooth frames with my 4070 TI.  I'm no longer seeing the head tracking issue that much but the smoothness has been constant since I first set the headset up and dialed in the settings.  You must have something set too high which for this headset is not needed.🤔

I happy to report back that I clawed back my missing 15 FPS. I turned off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling and DX12. Not only that, but I remember testing both of those settings and not seeing a difference, weird.

Weird, is not the half of it.  Try my issue where shutting off 'Use NANOVG for XML Gauges' (which defaults 'on' upon restart of the sim) solved my Pimax tracking issue above $25,000ft in heavy clouds.  Sim/CL runs great now with 'Use NANOVG for XML Gauges' defaulted 'on'.  Never had to touch it again.🫤😶

I you my blow by blow of my impression of this thing. I've just installed Pimax play and Pimax XR and put the thing on to a scene of standing on a rock planet with stars in the sky and a couple of giant planets in the sky. To reiterate my previous experience was Samsung Odyssey Plus about 3 or 4 years ago. I did really like that headset but after a while once I started to know it's short comings I went back to big screen 4K. I liked the Odyssey for sim racing because I was like looking at the world out of a motorbike helmet and it did have some screen door effect but at the time it was a popular headset and I was impressed by it. Now putting the CL on for the first time with the odyssey experience in the background blow my mind! The field of view is huge! The sweet spot is big supper easy to find. I took me 30 or seconds to tighten up the straps while hold the headset on my face in the right place. I didn't do any IPD adjustment yet but I didn't see any need to yet. And the image is Crystal clear. Very impressive out of the box with no adjustment of setting or effort at all.

More later.

Oh and I noticed I hadn't even taken the protective film of the lenses!🤣

So once I figured out there is a VR mode button in the MSFS setting menu I took a flight. I only adjusted the graphics setting in MSFS and just left Pimax play as it was. It's definitely a keeper.

One feature I love is double tapping the headset it seem anywhere with your finger tip give you a pass through view of your room. Its a shame the cameras are so crappy. Otherwise this would be a very good feature!

OK, that's enough for today. What can I say VR has come a long way since my Samsungs Odyssey plus. I'd say I went from being initially very impressed to having my mind blown. I think I've succeeded in coming a long way in tweaking the clarity even in the distance. One thing I found on the Pimax website and didn't see anywhere else was to turn on Image sharpening in NCP and set it to "Sharpen 0.26, ignore film grain 0.17" Since I read a few post complaining about blurriness in the distance I thought I'd mention that. I wasn't really finding any fault with the distance Image but I believe I noticed an improvement once I set this.

I just flew from KSEA to CYVR which I do often in the FBW. My flight plan brought me over the Olympic Mountains. I just let the auto pilot take it all the way and relaxed and enjoyed the view. At one point I got up out of the captains chair and step in the back of the flight deck. I literally reached out to open the cabin door it was so real. I turned around and observed the flight from the back of the flight deck and was unsteady on my feet. Now I had done this before with the older VR HMD but this was an altogether superior experience.

I'd say we are well past beating 4K big screen hands down. The surfaces knobs, Switches and gauges look real! I kid you not!

I have loads of tweaking to do and loads of learning. I will take sometime to figure out all the Pimaxplay setting and what affect they have. I have a bit of stuttering to iron out.

This thing is definitely a keeper for me!

I think I hit the performance sweet spot so now it is not only the best image quality I've ever seen but also far smoother than I was seeing yesterday. I just took a very rough Bell 407 ride over Manhattan. It was insane!🤩

I to think you were about to buy the Q3 or PSVR! Your mind would have not been blown by those two headsets.

How's your performance with the 3090?

Subjectively, I find it very good. I'm used to 4K on a 55" Samsung so I was looking at nearly maxed out settings and using Auto fps along with lossless scaling or TV frame interpolation I was used to seeing a very smooth, sharp and detailed image. even though I don't think I've quite got that smoothness of quite the same image quality with the CL it's darn close and Pros really out the cons. And I'm just getting started!

I just finished a flight from London to Dublin in the FBW. This time I got out of the captains chair and stood in the back of the cabin. That's a really amazing experience. Yesterday I did the same thing and was wondering how I could open the cabin door. It never struck me that I could just walk right through it!🤣 So today I did. I'm of the opinion that consciousness and brain are two separate things. Having this thing on you can really feel the row going between your brain and your consciousness. It's hilarious.

Right now I just have the Pimax play software installed and Pimax XR runtime. I didn't install the XRTool kit since I got the impression it no longer needed from the VR Flight Sim Guy Video.

So right now I'd say the image quality is spectacular and I'm happy with the performance. I'm also have some trouble with Auto FPS right now so having problems getting it to work.

I's still just messing around with this thing so I'm sure there is still room for improvement.

Since the MSFS 2024 beta I've been having trouble with my 2020. I wasn't paying close enough attention and installed the SU15 Beta instead. I just uninstalled it and now MSFS2020 is doing a complete re-install! 💩

In the mean time I shifted gear (pun intended) to Codemasters F1 2022. Out of the box it just unbelievable with the Pimax Crystal Light. Enough said!

Were you able to get Fixed Foveated Rendering working with MSFS? If yes, then XRtoolkit is not needed. I can't get FFR to work natively with the Pimax software in MSFS, it does work with DCS. I still need XRtoolkit to check my FPS.

I can't sim with a flat monitor anymore! Not sure what Auto FPS is?

I have tried the 90hz (Lab) setting but I cannot tell if its working or not. I think it is. I was looking for a way to show FPS etc. etc. etc. in the VR view. It seem that will be with XRToolKit. I've got it downloaded but haven't tried it yet. Your way ahead of me.

The 90hz(lab) is the refresh rate of the display. Fixed Foveated Rendering is in the 'Games' tab. You have to enable it under 'Enable Program Setting' and 'Games' - 'MSFS'. Just wondering if it works natively with pimax software or if you have to continue using the OpenXR toolkit.
