September 26, 20241 yr Hey guys, I am planning to upgrade my GPU in preparation for FS'24. I'm currently using an RTX 2080 Ti paired with a 5800X3D (this is my full rig: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qZdgDZ ) Overall performance is still pretty good, especially with LSFG. 11 GB of VRAM doesn't quite cut it, though... I previously considered the 4070 Super, but that would hardly be an upgrade on the VRAM side. The next best option from Nvidia would be the 4070 Ti Super 16GB, which I'm currently considering. I'm not completely ruling out the 7900 XT, although the rumours of poor drivers, poorer ray tracing (which could become a factor in 24 and beyond) and DLSS 3 make me prefer Nvidia... So: would the 4070 Ti Super be a good pairing for my 5800X3D? I suppose I'll be CPU limited, but I see little alternative if I want at least 16GB of VRAM. Used 3090's are barely cheaper than the 4070 Ti Super where I live and I would miss out on native DLSS 3 so I'm not sure if it's worth considering. I appreciate your input! Cheers
September 27, 20241 yr It's a very reasonable match. September 27, 20241 yr Yes, exactly what I would choose. For a better cpu (7800X3D) you would need a new motherboard and new system RAM to be compatible with 7800X3D. 4070 super ti is plug and play with your components unless it is too wide. Check the YT videos on 4070 super ti comparisons and note the width of the card, how many slots wide (if room is tight in your computer case). Sell the old gpu on eBay. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. September 27, 20241 yr Agreed. I can second that, as I also have that card. Some claim this card is best for high performance in 2k which I can vouch for. Others say you’d probably be better off with a 4080 if you’re running 4k - which I can’t vouch for. The main thing is it’s got 16Gb RAM… very pleased so far esp with having native FG. Hope it this helps
September 27, 20241 yr The price on the 5080 (not 4080) is rumored to be about $900. 400 watts. My card is 4070 (230 watts) and 5800X3D cpu. my psu is only 600 watts and there have no issues with power. With your PSU, you should be able to do a 5080 Notice the memory bandwidths, which are the performance clues. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. September 28, 20241 yr Author Thanks for your input guys! I'll be sticking with AM4 and 1440p for a while so I think it's the right choice for me at this time. It will arrive on Monday, looking forward to this upgrade!
