I also came to know about P3D v4 which after looking into the system requirements made me realize that it's the perfect simulator which I needed. Just wanted to know whether choosing P3D v4 over FSX is any good?

@USMC Aviator, please don’t post the same message in more than one section. I’ve hidden the one in the FS2004 section.

It's available here but bear in mind the version for FSX and earlier versions of P3D is not compatible with MSFS or later versions of P3D. Decide which sim you're going to use and buy the relevant ver

As someone who uses 3 different sims I'd say p3d v4 or v5 would be a better option than fsx IF you are starting from scratch. You get all the advantages of fsx with none of the disadvantages of msfs. Low hard drive footprint, quick loads and no constant sim updates (plus 64 bit way better than 32). You do lose the missions and training of fsx though.

Someone way more knowledgeable than me would need to advise you on which version of p3d to get though, I only purchased v5s month or so ago.

Also, if you're talking about p3d you're now in the wrong forum so the mods might move this topic.

Sadly I don't think there is a general sim forum here where simmers can talk about any sims merits and disadvantages. Probably cos of the disagreements lol.

As FSX and P3D v4 uses the same engine moreover, so will I be able to run all my FSX addons on P3D v4?

Sceneries? Very probably*

Aircraft and panels? Good question: as long as the gauges are done in XML (usually a folder or a CAB file full of XML files), it can be easily moved between sims. Those who use C++ gauges (those ending in .gau or .dll) can't be ported. HOWEVER, while some payware developers offer separate FSX and P3Dv4 versions (for example, the Aerosoft Airbus or the freeware A2A P-40), many others offer both a FSX and P3Dv4 version within the same license. For example, the Carenado birds.

WX utilities (i.e., ActiveSky, FSXWX)? Nope. They have separate versions. Same happens with FSUIPC (v4 for FSX, v6 for P3D).

*The only issue is, if using AFCADs (which I recommend for your laptop). Taxiways and aprons may not appear, but this can be easily solved with ADE.

You mean your Fs2004/FS9 addons right? You don't have FSX yet or any addons for it I recall? OR are you looking to buy fsx and later move to p3d?

That wouldn't really make sense to me.

@Luis Hernandez Thanks for your detailed answer. Just a simple question, what do you mean by ADE?

@sloppysmusic Actually some of my FS9 payware addons are FSX compatible and thus wanted to know whether if I can run those in P3D v4. Moreover, I wanted to be sure that if in near future I switch to P3D then will my addons for FSX be compatible with it.

After a lot of thinking and a lot of reviews, I found that FSX Steam Edition is the Simulator I am looking for. Most Probably I will buy it next Sunday. I agree P3D is Superb but is also a lil expensive and requires a huge storage. Although, my plan is to buy P3D v4 next year, so I just wanted to confirm that will my investment on FSX addons be any fruitful to my P3D v4 in near future.

Last but not the least, thanks to everyone who helped me here in this forum! I may return back to this forum after buying FSX with more doubts and queries regarding the sim. I hope that you guys keep me helping!

Thank you!
