RNZAF B727 Airshow Display

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

As @btacon has already advised, FSS have yet another update to their B727-200F. I don't think this is uncommon on first release as bugs are ironed out although as some have noted it might also appear as having been a bit rushed to market. Whatever the case, I sense from many of the comments on Discord that this aircraft is scratching a big itch with most being pretty happy with the airplane overall and particularly with FSS's continued approach to updates where issues exist.  While not up to PMDG standard (or price) by any stretch, it a very good rendition in my opinion and is my  No 1.  I don't think you would regret buying the FSS B727. (Disclaimer: My only connection to FSS is that I bought their B727).

So for those of you still sitting on the fence with this aircraft vs say the B707, I thought I would drop a couple of videos I found on YT that provide both an air display and a day to day operation out of a windy Wellington, for the RNZAF B727.

As an ex crewmember on these aircraft, this naturally brings back lots of memories but at the same time regardless of if you have flown on the aircraft or not,  it is hard not to be impressed with the 727's iconic shape and classic sound and these video's, although a little grainy,  seem to do that justice.

Please note: The RNZAF B727's were -100QC's (Quick Change) ex United. In United service, they ran freight at night and then at day they would be loaded with palletised passenger seating and palletised galley and then fly passengers.

In RNZAF service we used them for VIP and troop transport travelling throughout the world on missions and exercises as dictated by the government of the day.

So the first video is a pretty impressive air display with some head on and fly by shots.  In the next video, the aircraft is landing at Wellington as part of a domestic scheduled military air transport flight. The crosswind is nothing unusual for Wellington as the airplane lands and then taxis to the military 'Air Movements' terminal. It then departs but as it begins taxi you can see the wing of the RNZAF Andover C. MK1 parked behind it, gets a bit of a waggle from the 727's breakaway thrust.  Note also the steep climbout. The B-727 was very sporty!!

I have requested from Flightsim.to one of the liveries for this aircraft when it first entered RNZAF service but I wish FSS would produce a -100. It doesn't sound like they will!!

Anyway, hope you enjoy these YT video's and my added info.

Cheers

Terry

There was also a few years ago in UK a recent 727 Tanker firefighter modified, maybe still operative, but I don´t remember already the company name or webpage, anyone?, or a YouTube video?
