MS 2024 Controller profiles?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Not really sure what to call this subject, but I’m planning on jumping onto MS2024 at release, but then moving over to a full new build pc in around Feb next year.  Mines getting a little long in the tooth now so I want to do a new build when the 5000 series cards are released and possibly move over to the new AMD 9800X3D CPU (I’ve been Intel since…well probably 25 years now)

Has anyone moved across onto new rig while using 2020? I’m wondering if the controller profiles are picked up if you do a new install on a new pc? I am assuming that if they are on 2020, then theoretically the same should apply for 2024?

Many thanks!

Anthony

The controller profiles are totally different from 2020, you won't be able to carry over. That's a feature they improved a lot and because of that, they are not compatible.

No no I was thinking more along the lines of setting up my controllers in 2024 later this month. Then switching over to a new build pc early next year. Would those 2024 profiles likely transfer when I re-install 2024 on the new rig?

I guess nobody can definitively answer that right now, but I was wondering if anyone had done anything similar in 2020?

I have, and the controller profiles were automatically available on my new PC.

They are cloud-based so yes indeed.

Thanks chaps! Not that it would have stopped me upgrading! Haha!

I’d probably just not have bothered spending too much time setting them up if I’d have to do it all over again in a few months!

Moving 2020 from one computer to another will preserve all controller profiles because they have been also in the cloud all that time.

Moving from 2020 to 2024 will not preserve any controller profile at all. No, not one old assignment will be carried over. This is not a guess or theory, it has been stated as fact by Microsoft many times.

On the other hand the default preassignments for a given controller that were there in 2020 will be carried over to 2024 (even though that was not true in the Alpha 2024).
