Cache settings?

Featured Replies

Can't remember reading anything about the use of and best size for the cache in MSFS20204. Anyone knows if someone already tested this? The cache default to 16GB: is that because it's a good size or because MS Asobo didn't want to fill up drives without asking?

Don't think much is known about the cache in 2024. It was a bit of a problem-child in 2020 but I assume they've made some improvements and rely on it much more due to the streaming nature of 2024. Due to the fact that it's mandatory and creates the entire buffer right away, is probably why it's only 16GB. Can't just take 50-100GB of people's drive space for a cache file.

First thing I did was set mine to 32gb and forgot about it, as I generally don't fly in the same place often a cache for locations is pretty pointless for me, but for aircraft and other bits & pieces (until we get the option to download stuff) it's handy.

Having said that i've been graphics tweaking all afternoon in the same area, yet every time I load in the terrain looks like dogs droppings until it loads in eventually - so maybe the cache is doing bugger all anyway! (although the servers have been up the creek again today)
