November 24, 20241 yr There have been some comments that 2024 could simply have been released as a payware update to 2020.. However, be careful what you wish for! Several 2020 system updates broke things and caused much grief.. and there was no way of going back! Here, we can still fly 2020 for the next while.. nothing broken 🙂 I am trying identical flights in 2020 and 2024, and in some cases 2024 looks better, and mostly it is smoother. (It also heats up my office nicely..) Here a screenshot of a sightseeing flight over Vancouver in 2024.. with Samscene 3D and Mamu's Marina's active. This does look better than the same flight in 2020.. Edited November 24, 20241 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
November 24, 20241 yr Author I should add that the elevation data for Southern Vancouver Island, where I live, has been updated and I no longer require the separate LIDAR scenery mod that is required in 2020. A mod that caused performance problems on my system.. Edited November 24, 20241 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
November 24, 20241 yr Interesting thought. Never crossed my mind that they actually just could have upgraded MSFS 2020, called it MSFS 2024 and moved on with just one platform to support. As always there are pros and cons to both approaches.
November 24, 20241 yr The streaming of almost everything really irks me. There's a reason why many of us own very fast M.2 drives and aren't really bothered by having to download update packages every now and then as well as world updates. I'm fairly certain this was done for Xbox users to save space, however I wish there was an option to do a permanent install like 2020 is, hopefully Asobo/Microsoft offers that option as I would imagine hundreds of thousands of users downloading the exact same files every time they fly will end up costing Asobo/Microsoft quite a bit of money in server bandwidth. I'm just grateful I decided to give this new sim a "grace period" until after Christmas; let Asobo & Microsoft iron out the major bugs for several months. Andrew

They have promised this option "before Christmas".. In the meantime you have the option of being a beta tester of the current release, like many of us.. November 24, 20241 yr Just now, Bert Pieke said: They have promised this option "before Christmas".. Very cool! Hey Bert, what LIDAR data are/were you using for the Vancouver region is MSFS 2020? I *LOVE* flying in that area of Canada as it's absolutely gorgeous. Andrew
