Navigraph needed after all... at least for SimBrief

Featured Replies

I was very happy with the announced EFB and thought: 'Finally I can get rid of Navigraph'. However, after a few (apparently lucky) succesful flights I ran into navdata problems when I tried to load a SimBrief plan into MSFS2024, like a SID that wasn't found and a plan only loading up to the first waypoint... These problems occured when using the SB plugin as well as when loading a download PLN into the EFB planner. So it seems that in order to use SimBrief (which I need for BATC) at least a Navigraph navdata subscription is mandatory.

Bummer.

But well, I have to add the EFB was a bit of a letdown anyway. Can't say the charts, nice as they may look, are very helpful. (Have to add I hardly use the Navigraph charts either anymore...) The planner itself sucks, really, giving weird plans and not being able to add procedures just like that. It only kinda works when you load an SB plan into it but why should you if you use the SB plugin... The SB planner is a lot better anyway. So I'd rather use the SB plugin for the EFB now! Very convenient. The EFB is only needed (and apparently mandatory) to load fuel and pax.

My main problem right now is Navigraph is still working on the navdata... so I am stuck a little here. Will have to wait for the release or try some other flights and see if I can get lucky again.

If they were smart and not cheap, they'd integrate this hot mess with Navigraph and saved us all trouble or at least offer an option of their navi/charts or Navigraph's, but considering they can't even get their stuff together to deliver a properly working GUI, I'm not shocked this didn't happen.

Hm, the plan I had problems with (missing SID, route not loading) now loads perfectly fine when I use the (just installed) Navigraph G3000 plugin... Apparently it was the SB EFB plugin that didn't handle the flight well... Confusing. The odd thing is now that I can 1. create the plan using the SB EFB plugin and then 2. load it into the G3000 using the G3000 plugin. I can't use the SB EFB plugin for that.

Well, hey, it's all beta yet, of course! So apparently all this DOES work without the Navigraph navdate... As I said: confusing...!

PS Big bummer is of course that you can only download and install the G3000 plugin when you have an active Navigraph Unlimited subscription. Which I intend to cancel. I might get the Navdata only subscription at most. Luckily I still have an Unlimited sub running so I will have to make sure to make a backup of that plugin before my subscription ends. My biggest hope is then that the free obtainable SB EFB plugin will be bug free by then.

Via the Navigraph hub, there is a 2024 section. From there you can install a plug in that brings simbrief and Navigraph charts to the EFB.

It works amazing.

Thanks. I know. Read my posts again. 😉

The SB plugin for the EFB is buggy. The plugin for the G3000 works like a charm.

I was thinking the default database was giving me problems but it turns out the SB plugin for the EFB was the main cause. Importing a plan with the SB plugin didn't work but importing the same plan using the G3000 plugin worked well.

Having said that: the LIDO charts/procedures was missing a SID that SB planned.

I guess it's top early to give definitive answers to certain things.

For about a quarter a day (US$) I think that Navigraph is well worth the cost especially considering how well integrated it is with so many third party add-ons (in 2020, for now). If flying online it is indispensable.

Yes, you can get free charts and use those but the integration Navigraph offers plus the features they keep adding makes it a no-brainer for me. Personal opinion and, no, I am in no way affiliated with them.
