Late to the party as just changed ISP and get game pass for 12 months

just installed and loaded up it gets to the screen activating packages and it takes about 20 minutes to get past this each time before I’m actually in the game. Is this normal?

No. On my PC the initial start up (from Desktop to Main menu) takes around 3 to 3.5 minutes. Going from the planner to the cockpit takes around 40 seconds.

Is there something in your community folder causing your issue? Like the poster said above it takes about 2 mins for my start to main screen and another 3 min to load flt plan and load my Fenix airbus, default AC takes less time.

Vanilla install here and from launch to main menu takes, on average, 10 to 15 minutes for me. Occasionally, I get a startup in the 3.5 minute range but those are rare. Most of that time is during the "Activating Packages" or "VFS Activating Packages" phase. There is nothing in my Community folder so it can't be blamed on that. I've got 2 Gbps internet service (on a PC with a hard-wired 2.5 Gbps local network connection) and all speed tests and network diagnostics show that I'm getting expected network speeds. 

I've added exclusions to MS Defender to all folders related to MSFS2024.

None of this helps. I really feel that this is down to something server-side on Microsoft's end but I would love to be proven wrong.

Nothing at all in community folder.  I do have 2020still installed .  Its the activating packages that is taking the time.

Nothing at all in community folder.  I do have 2020still installed .  It’s the activating packages that is taking the time while animation plays takes about 8 mins to get to 15% . Then from then 16% to 17. %  3 minutes then hits 18% and the rest takes about  10 seconds

I can confirm (at least on my system) that syncing the time on my PC made my MSFS2024 load time drop to around 2:30 instead of the usual 10ish minutes. Definitely worth a try for anyone who is suffering with consistently long load times.

OMG done that and now 2 minutes and 7 seconds from launching game to the menus.

why this causes issues like this is bizarre. Also that someone found the solution , wow

this forum never ceases to amaze me how helpful members are.
