DA40NG brakes are super ineffective

Featured Replies

Hello Gang!

Has anyone noticed that the DA40 NG in 2024 can hardly brake?  Did a couple of circuits today around MPTO trying out some things and it took almost the whole length of the runway to stop.  What in the world?

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

I noticed decreased braking power with all the GA planes that I flew. But it made modulation more easier, so I don't mind. But I almost run out of runway sometimes. For instance the steam gauge 172.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

Yes I had this problem and the parking brake doesn't hold either in an engine runup.

Did you pressurize the brakes before locking the parking brake? Real plane will happily accelerate otherwise.

No I did not. How do you pressurize the brakes? Even when you pull up to a parking spot or ramp?

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up.

You simply apply pressure on the toe brakes, the parking brake in the DA40 (and many other GA) is effectively a valve which closes and traps the already applied pressure in the system.
