MSFS 24 Streaming...How much data does it use?

Featured Replies

I have never been charged for going over my monthly internet allotment but this month I have been charged twice for going 10gb over my plan.  Is this going to be the norm?  If so I need go to unlimited internet.

This is going to depend a lot on how much you fly. I have not flown that much this month -- maybe 25 hours -- and it says I used 1.3 GB, which is not very much. I have an unlimited plan and consume about 1.25 to 1.5 TB per month.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Don't forget the initial base download is probably included with that the first month as well.

Once it is just flying it shouldn't be that bad, especially when you can download items locally but then the trade-off is the size of the initial download...

Did you install it this month as well?

No I installed in Nov but I am over for the first time in December.  This is why I was curious if MSFS 24 is expected to consume more internet than 2020.

The answer is: Yes 🙂

Absolutely get an unlimited plan. It seems more likely to me that your data usage will grow as the sim becomes more stable and you make greater use of it.

Unfortunately streaming stuff like this is probably going to be the norm in the future just like other stuff. Video streaming is pretty much the norm and this being the case you almost certainly need an unlimited plan.

Heck who knows maybe they will go to a subscription plan at some point, everyone else if the software industry has gone this direction.

It does consume more data than 2020, setting aside the download of the sim and any other addons you are using. Just the data usage of the sim is at a higher rate than 2020, but it is, surprisingly to me, not that much higher. But I think it is early to assess this. I have been flying only in a few areas and they may be cached now so not downloading them all each flight.
