December 30, 20241 yr In the since years of FSX (2006???) til now with P3Dv5.4.....I have NEVER tried to fly a 'chopper. Now that I have a Logitech X52 HOTAS Pro....I'm dying to try. Haven't the faintest idea how to set it up...or what to do when I get there !!! Been looking for at leat a TUTORIAL/HOW TO...with negative results. If any body can get me airborne with the default 'Robinson 22'... I'd really appreciate it. Flying over Dong Ha in a 'Huey' seemed so easy !!! Thanks Skip d

December 31, 20241 yr Author Thanks for that valuable info.....but what I really need to know is how to set up the controls so I can respond using my X52, I don't see anything in the 'key assignments' or 'axis assignments' geared to flying a helo !!! That's what is stumping me ! Skip d
December 31, 20241 yr LOL this thread reminds me of when I was in Viet Nam in 1972 talking to an Army aviator about flight school. One told me learning to hover a helicopter was like riding a unicycle with a feather balance on your nose. Another said it was like balancing yourself on a basketball and trying to roll yourself around but after a while it all becomes so automatic you just have to will the ship to move a certain direction and it responds. They knew what they were talking about because those guys could sure make those birds dance. They were all very good. Another old dictum explains that an aircraft flies by obtaining a useful flow of air over the top of the wing. A helicopter on the other hand simply beats the air into submission. Vic green

Skip d Might seem weird, but go check out the DCS helo guides on chucks guides.com He shows illustrated control bind diagrams and such for a variety of rotary wing add-ons. Probably the Huey is most similar. I don't fly helos much if any in P3D, but in other sims the normal aircraft binds are usually enough to function, though tuning is required. The trick is realizing how helo controls have entirely different effects on the aircraft than they do in fixed wing. 😁
