can satellite imagry be incorperated into FSX?

Featured Replies

say google maps for instance. is it possible for us to change out the tiles in FSX and add google maps?I know about tileproxy and Ive never had too much success with it. tiles will load too slow. This comes to mind after seeing on the files the photorealistic chile areas. could I do a photorealistic area say west palm beach?

Yes sat imagery can be incorporated into FSX. Really you answered your own question, if you've used Tileproxy and have observed the Chile files. The drawback to using sat images right now, is that they are static--they don't adjust for:1) time of day (subtle lighting changes)2) season (you only have the season in which the images were captured)3) wx conditions (snow, wetness, etc.)Until those things are overcome, photo scenery will only be a tantalizing glimpse into what could be. I think, eventually, photoscenery will be the norm...but we need a lot more on-the-fly image processing capability (read: cpu horsepower) before that happens.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Download the Bluesky scenery available here at avsim. A good deal of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California including Yosemite, and the Colorado area near Telluride. It looks fanastic and I get fps in the 80's-100's when using it.http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

One project I work upon occasionally is Miller, Lafayette, Columbia and Union County in Arkansas and Caddo, Bossier, Webster and Claiborne Parish in Louisiana.I'm not using satellite imagery because I think it looks too poor compared to default FS textures and autogen. What I am doing is modifying and replacing the land class for the area - making that landclass match approximately the satellite imagery - though some places will be forest which are now clear and some will be clear which are now forest. I'm trying to recreate the areas as it was in about 1968-70.I'm using SceneGenX and the Manifold toolbar.I'm working down to plots as small as two or three acres in some places - trying to match up the area to what it was when I took my first flights, over that area with a friend in high school who had his own airplane.

Mind the B52s, sir.

GeofThanks for pointing out this scenery. I didn't think anyone on this board even knew of Creede, CO, let alone create scenery of the area. I have a cabin about 15 miles SW of Creede and am very familiar with the area. The scenery looks great, but all of the airport buildings have disappeared. Do you have that problem or do I have it improperly installed. Thanks for your help.
