Connection issues Reverb G2/Win 11

Featured Replies

I just managed to get my old G2 working in Windows 11 a couple of days ago. I upgraded my Win 10 installation a few months ago but only recently realised that the G2 might be a go in Win 11. But I'm having a connection problem in FS'20, where it will disconnect/reconnect over and over.

I haven't had much experience with this configuration, so it is not yet clear to me whether my connection problems are related to some sort of residual incompatibility between the G2 and Windows 11.

I got a Pimax CL for FS'24 on another machine, so I'm not dependent on my G2 rig for simming, but it would be nice to get some more value out of it.

Have any of you guys noticed a potential conflict?

Ah, ha! Sorry guys, the solution turned out to be much simpler than expected, which is a little embarrassing. My WiFi signal wasn't strong enough to get into the corner where my '20 rig is located. A simple cable between the two rooms fixed everything and I'm back to enjoying FS'20.

And wow, FS'20 looks great, ha ha.

Wait a second, how did you get it working in Win11? I thought M$ removed WMR and bricked the g2 in 11?

Yeah, that's what I thought too which is why it took me so long the realise with all to negative hype around the G2 and Win11.

The only reason why it works in Win11 is because I made this computer compatible with the TPM requirements of Win11 and so it qualified for an upgrade from Win10 to Win11.

The Win11 upgrade kept the WMR functionality in place and available to use with my old G2.

I only realised this when looking through the items in the Start menu and I saw that WMR was still there just waiting for me to give it a go.

Ive disabled updates because I run a G2.  I used a lite app from major geeks to disable it.  I still get critical/security updates

Yeah, that's how it happened to me. I didn't disable updates and eventually I got one that compromised the functionality of the G2, it would crash so much that I just gave up using it.

That's when I built a Win 11 rig and got a Pimax CL, but I also got my old rig to comply with the TPM and Win 11. It wasn't that hard, it was just a little fiddling in the BIOS/UEFI setup and the upgrade was free.

Is this with 24H2 or 23H2 revision of Win11?  My first Win10 upgrade attempt from 24H2 ISO (on unsupported hardware) warned that WMR is no longer supported. I did not want to get wedged with a non functional G2 so I then installed from the 23H2 ISO (had to find it on archive.org) and added the registry hack to force Windows to hold at the 23H2 rev. Security patches still get applied. Works OK so far.

System settings reports 23H2 although the install date was the middle of October '24.

I didn't have to work out a hack for 11. I fixed up the TPM and UEFI requirements for 11 so that installing it was automatic. The Update and Security settings page had a button and the upgrade went ahead from there.

I use a small program called incontrol.exe.  Seems to be working fine, my G2 in W11 continues to run well.

@nojwod Does it mean that you are in 24H2 and you can continue with WMR and the G2?, could be great news, or you block that W11 update or another one?

Would be great for other 4 years to the G2 (repairing again my already mended strap... haha), that still nowadays hardware can´t manage it, I would like to be in a smooth clarity 90Hz, though even the actual hardware power can´t well in 60Hz, only thanks to other external programs and tricks. And the resolution it is really good, most of time I don´t watch the pixels or saw tooth.

Yes yes, you could even run the G2 at 240Hz if you want lowering settings hahaha, ofc, running MSFS at 120p etc., please nobody response me like that.... haha
