Aggressive LOD system

Featured Replies

I am aware that the LOD system in MSFS 2020 can be somewhat aggressive at times. Taxiway signs/lights etc. popping into existence at relatively short range are a common sight in the simulator. I can (just about) live with this, but when this same LOD system is also applied to large objects, then it is a step too far. I took the PMDG 777F for a quick spin around LDDU Dubrovnik this morning. I landed on runway 11, exited on taxiway Echo, and turned back towards the terminal on taxiway Golf. As I proceeded towards my parking spot, I could see evidence of the aggressive LOD system in action (the expected taxiway signs appearing from hyperspace, and also some details on the front of the terminal). However, it was the sudden appearance of the fuel farm on the west side of the airport that surprised me the most.

Frankly, we cannot have a LOD system that makes relatively large objects like those fuel tanks and associated buildings appear out of nowhere. It is bad enough with the taxiway signs, but large objects materialising from the twilight zone when I am relatively close is a big immersion killer, and (IMO) totally unacceptable.

I have sent a message to IniBuilds about it

What has IniBuilds to do with it?  The "aggressive LOD system" has been discussed very often (and very recently, e.g. landing gears). Unfortunately, it seems that it will never be fixed by MS/Asobo.

Most of my addon airports do not have large objects appearing out of thin air at close range. That being the case, addon developers must be able to set the LOD range for these objects to a certain extent.

You should see it in MSFS2024, it's atrocious.

i think it's getting worse all the time. I don't recall it being as bad in the early days of 2020.
