June 25, 200817 yr BTW Nick_N:What variables would be valid for "_N" in your forum name? :-lol :-haloGaryGB
June 26, 200817 yr It's just a tweak, no need to get so excited. It is just 1 value at a time, Bill is correct about that.Try them and see if you even notice a difference; its something I pulled from an old email from Sebby and he is no longer on the team so it isn't something I can check on faster than people interested can try on their own. ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.
June 26, 200817 yr LOL!Thanks PhilI had posted the single digit explanation elsewhere but the description and the question around it got me thinking perhaps I was wrong tooYou do realize that one day you and a few others may get locked in a room by us and not allowed to leave until we get all the unknown config tweaks in a nice organized listor you have to convince us there really is no morehe he he
June 26, 200817 yr PhilThanks for your response. I certainly wasn't getting excited but I thought (and so did others) that your blog was ambiguous. It might be have been better if you had said:ShadowMappingQuality=n(Where "n" = equals any number from 0 to 3) . . . and then explaining the significance of 0, 1, 2, 3 (as you did) etcHowever, thanks again for the clarification, I thought that you meant one singlke number at a time but I just wanted to make sure by asking the more erudite mebers of this forum.FWIW IMHO FSX is the best flying sim that MS has released and it works well on my modest system.Peter HayesEDIT: Left out statements originally in square brackets!!
June 26, 200817 yr >And the expression means?Hi Jeff,As demonstrated in the attachment, I have always understood the expression to mean; There are 'alternative' ways to have something clarified.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/190024.gifIf I miss-understood Kevin, just put it down to my warped sense of humour. June 26, 200817 yr This from the ESP SDK info (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526948.aspx), down the page in "Configuration Settings" paragraph:"ShadowMappingQuality (set to 0=off, 1=Low, 2=High, 3=Auto - the default is "Auto"). The "Low" setting for the shadow mapping refers to the shadow mapping filter present in the RTM version of ESP. The "High" setting refers to a newer, higher-quality shadow mapping filter. By default, the higher-quality filter is applied if the Graphics slider in the Settings dialog is set to High or Ultra High. Use this configuration setting to override the default behavior."I'm assuming this is the same functionality described by Phil for FSX
June 26, 200817 yr Author Phil,Moving forward, would your team consider documenting more of these settings and/or coupling them with elements in the UI for adjusting these settings? It seems that new .cfg tweaks/settings are always emerging and the documentation is not centralized.Thank you, Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.
