April 11, 20251 yr Moderator That was a horrible tragedy. I was just fixing to post the same video link, as it make for fascinating commentary. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 11, 20251 yr Administrators Watching the video, it seemed just a split second before hitting the water, like someone bailed out! It may have just been a piece of debris, but it looked kinda weird! Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. April 11, 20251 yr Scary flying along level flight to a free fall, which is experiencing 1 G-Force to zero G-Force in the free fall, the roll is slow so disorienting, I wouldn’t wan5 to be in that situation which is why helicopters never appealed to me. I’ve been in a forced landing experience in an old Otter due to engine failure and walked away from that, when you lose an engine you can glide in, helicopters fall from the sky your options are far more limited Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
April 12, 20251 yr IT seemed that the rotor came off. Also with a rotor I thought that the rotor slowed the descent rate (autorotation) viz https://www.popularmechanics.com/flight/a20559/how-helicopters-land-safely-engine-cuts-out/ Regards John Gigabyte Z390 m/b, i7 9700K cpu, 16Gb Hyper X Fury 3200 ram, RTX2060 6Gb, Gigabyte 32" monitor, MSFS 2020 store edition
April 13, 20251 yr 6 hours ago, Jarnie said: Also with a rotor I thought that the rotor slowed the descent rate (autorotation) viz Yes it does if there is a very basic failure (Fuel Starvation etc). If there is a catastrophic failure and autorotation isn't working there is nothing you can do. I agree this look like something catastrophic, this model of helicopter doesn't have a history of Mast Bumping and these wind conditions should not have been a contributor to Mast Bumping, so yea looks like something catastrophic happened mechanically. It will take time to know fore sure. I am suspicous of the maintanence on these tourist operations and they are heavily used with short flights, so lots of abuse on them Edited April 13, 20251 yr by Matthew Kane Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
